[. . . ] Application Profile Market: Turbine Blades (Industrial Gas Blades) Application Description: Removal of small milling lines and blending final finish of small (less than 8" long) turbine blades 241321 Key Application Requirements Removal of small milling lines, coarse grade abrasive scratches, and surface imperfections while blending and providing final or intermediate bright finish on small stainless steel industrial gas turbine blades. Used on spindle lathes and bench motors. PRODUCT Scotch-BriteTM SF Finishing and Deburring Wheel Grade 8S FIN 6" x ½" or 8" x ½" Products Replaced Competitive deburring wheels or rubber bonded wheels. Advantages/Benefits To Customer Fast and Consistent A unique resin system allows the SF wheel to contain more mineral than typical deburring wheels, meaning the SF cuts faster and lasts longer. SF wheels can easily remove small milling lines and defects caused from previous milling or abrasive steps. [. . . ] After forging, subsequent processing includes CNC milling which leaves milling lines and metal burrs on the parts. Milling lines are generally less than 0. 010" deep. The surface of the blades are abraded and blended to a uniform finish as preparation before going into vibration media for final finish. Historically, deburring wheels or rubber bonded wheels are used to remove metal scale, milling lines, and minor surface defects while trying to provide the required surface finish. Deburring wheels, which are higher densities, can be difficult to work with. Higher density wheels have a tendency to bounce and chunk, which is tiring for operators to run and can require frequent dressing. Deburring wheels also require metal burrs to act as a mechanism to dress the face of the wheel and expose fresh mineral. Rubber bonded wheels are often not aggressive enough, meaning the process is slower and more tiresome for operators. In addition, rubber bonded wheels do not provide a consistent finish. Scotch-Brite SF Wheel will quickly remove small milling lines and surface defects and blend the surface of the blade to provide a burr-free, consistent bright finish. SF wheels resist smearing, provide long wheel life even in the presence of burrs and are user-friendly for operators.
