[. . . ] 2 Switching off To turn off the appliance, turn the Temperature Regulator to the "STOP" position. 1 Cleaning the interior Before using the appliance for the first time, wash the interior and all internal accessories with lukewarm water and some neutral soap so as to remove the typical smell of a brand-new product, then dry thoroughly. Do not use detergents or abrasive powders, as these will damage the finish. 1 Freezing fresh food The freezing (top) area is suitable for freezing fresh food and storing frozen and deep-frozen food for a long time. To freeze fresh food turn the Temperature Regulator to "SUPER" position 6-24 hours before placing fresh food in the freezer. Place the food on the freezing shelf and leave the Temperature Regulator in "SUPER" position for a further 24 hours. The maximum amount of food that can be frozen in 24 hours is specified on the rating plate, a label located on the inside of the appliance. The freezing process lasts 24 hours: during this period do not add other food to be frozen. After 24 hours, return the Temperature Regulator to "NORMAL" position. The freezer will return to normal storage temperature. Place the frozen food in the storing (bottom) area to make room for another freezing. If the Temperature Regulator is left in the "SUPER" position, the freezer will not be damaged, but energy will be wasted. 2 Storage of frozen food When first starting-up or after a period out of use, before putting the products in the freezer let the appliance run at least 4 hours with the Temperature Regulator to "SUPER" position. In the event of accidental defrosting, for example due to a power failure, if the power has been off for longer than the value shown in the technical characteristics chart under "rising time", the defrosted food must be consumed quickly or cooked immediately and then re-frozen (after cooling). 3 Thawing Deep-frozen or frozen food, prior to being used, can be thawed at room temperature. Small pieces may even be cooked still frozen, directly from the freezer: in this case, cooking will take longer. 1 Normal Operating Sounds • You may hear a faint gurgling and a bubbling sound when the refrigerant is pumped through the coils or tubing. €¢ When the compressor is on, the refrigerant is being pumped around and you will hear a whirring sound and a pulsating noise from the compressor. €¢ The thermic dilatation might cause a sudden cracking noise. €¢ When the compressor switches on or switches off, you will hear a faint "click" ENGLISH 53 of the temperature regulator. 2 Hints for freezing To help you make the most of the freezing process, here are some important hints: • the maximum quantity of food which can be frozen in 24 hrs. Is shown on the rating plate; • the freezing process takes 24 hours.
