[. . . ] Software version 1. 30 WARNING To prevent fire or shock hazard, do not expose this appliance to rain or moisture. Operator's Manual WARNING!! To prevent fire or shock hazard, do not expose this appliance to rain or moisture. 1-En CAUTION RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK DO NOT OPEN CAUTION: TO REDUCE THE RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK DO NOT REMOVE COVER (OR BACK). REFER SERVICING TO QUALIFIED SERVICE PERSONNEL. THE SYMBOLS ARE RULED BY UL STANDARDS (U. S. A. ) The lightning flash with the arrowhead symbol superimposed across a graphical representation of a person, within an equilateral triangle, is intended to alert the user to the presence of uninsulated "dangerous voltage" within the product's enclosure; that may be of sufficient magnitude to constitute a risk of electric shock. The exclamation point within an equilateral triangle is intented to alert the user to the presence of important operating and maintenance (servicing) instructions in the literature accompanying the appliance. 5A-En WARNING WARNING The S2000 is designed to be used in a standard household environment. Power requirements for electrical equipment vary from area to area. [. . . ] It is also useful for balancing the respective levels of samples in, for example, a string or piano multi-sampled program, ensuring an even balance across the keyboard range. NOTE: You will note that if the master loudness parameter in the OUT page (see below) is set to 99, this control will only have effect downwards (i. e. when setting a negative value). S2000 Operator's Manual - Version 1. 30 Page 91 PROGRAM EDIT ASSIGNING A ZONE/KEYGROUP TO AN INDIVIDUAL OUTPUT In the next page down, you can fine tune the zone's tone and route the zone to one of the individual outputs (if the optional individual output board is fitted). The FILT (filter) parameter allows you to fine tune the filter cutoff slightly to maintain a consistent tone between keygroups. This is independent of the main filter CUTOFF frequency setting (see below - FILTER page) and is used merely as a convenient fine tune control for the tone of the sample in ZONE 1. The INDIV parameter allows you to assign each zone in each keygroup to its own output for separate processing on an external mixing console if you wish. This has a relationship with O/P field found in the OUTPUT LEVELS page. For example, if the whole program is assigned to an individual output, that output will be shown here - i. e. if the program is set to appear at output 1, then 1 will be shown for every keygroup here. You may change this per keygroup so that whilst some sounds come out of 1, other keygroups appear at other outputs. This is particularly useful on drums where you often need to mix drums through an external mixer to add EQ, reverb, compression, etc. . Even if the O/P field is set to OFF, you may route individual keygroups to separate outputs. This may be useful in a drum program where things like toms, cymbals and some percussion appear at the S2000's stereo outputs whilst important drums like bass drum and snare are assigned to appear at individual outputs. NOTE: Whatever the output assignment is here, the level is taken from the master OUT page and is set at the INDIV field. The FILT parameter is set by pressing F1 and using the DATA wheel to set the parameter and the OUT parameter is set by pressing F2 and selecting the output 1-8 using the DATA wheel. Select the keygroup you wish to affect with the outer SELECT wheel. Alternatively, move the cursor to the KG field and use the DATA wheel to select the keygroup. NOTE: Of course, if the individual output board is not fitted, even though you can set a value here, naturally, it will have no effect. SETTING THE ZONE'S LOW AND HIGH VELOCITY RANGES For velocity switching and crossfading between zones, you can set a low and high velocity range. For normal playback, this is set to V LO- 000/V HI-127: This page allows you to set low and high velocity values for the selected zone to create velocity switching and crossfade. Normally, for playback of just one sample in the zone, these values should be set to 000 - 127 as shown. To set up a velocity switched or velocity crossfade program, you should place a sample in ZONE 1 that covers a certain velocity range and another sample in ZONE 2 that covers another velocity range. For example, to set up a velocity switched slap bass program, assign a soft bass sample to ZONE 1 and set a low/high velocity range of 000-100. In ZONE 2, assign a hard, slapped bass sample and set a low/high velocity range of 101-127. If you play with a velocity between 000 Page 92 S2000 Operator's Manual - Version 1. 30 PROGRAM EDIT and 100, the soft bass will sound and if you play with a velocity of 101 or greater, the slapped bass will sound. Of course, you may set the velocity ranges as you like. the zones will gradually crossfade between the samples), set an overlapping range. For example, to set the same bass program for velocity crossfade, set one zone to 000-100 and the other to 80-127. [. . . ] The downside to this, to be honest, is that you must have the O/S floppy disk with you at all times in order to use the S2000. Quite frankly, without it, the S2000 is a useless box, serving only as an expensive paperweight!!With this in mind, it is worth making backups of the operating system floppy disk for safe keeping. Please refer to SAVE - SAVING OPERATING SYSTEM for more information on this. NOTE: If this seems like a step backwards, take consolation in the fact that most owners of earlier Akai samplers boot up from software upgrades on floppy disk most of the time. [. . . ]
