Press STOP twice to return to the standby display. 72 SMS D SMS The e-m@iler allows you to send text messages to UK mobile phones equipped with SMS (Short Message Service) facilities. As the name SMS suggests, mobile phones can accommodate short messages only - up to 120 characters. SMS messages are sent via amserve in a similar manner to email messages. As such, SMS calls will be charged at the email call rate you were advised of during registration. & Note the e-m@iler does not dial the mobile phone number directly in order to send an SMS message. You can send two or more SMS messages on the same call. (For information, see 'Sending multiple SMS messages' on page 76. ) Sending an SMS message !FAST TRACK: Press both ISMSI buttons, type in mobile phone number and message, press EMAIL. 1. Press both ISMSI buttons together so that the following display appears: If you've set up two or more email users, then before you receive this display you'll be asked to select a user. Note the cursor | is in the To: box. 73 SMS 2. Type in the mobile phone number you wish to send the message to (or see note* right). Even if the mobile phone you're sending to is being used abroad, always type in the UK number - do not add an international dialling code. Do not type in a PABX prefix (such as 9) before the mobile phone number. Move the cursor down to the message area of the display, then type in the message: & *Note - to send the message to a mobile phone number you've previously stored, press ADDRESS BOOK, start typing in the name, then use U D and press ENTER to insert the required mobile phone number in the To: box. Note the message itself can be up to 120 characters long. (After that, no more characters can be typed in. ) 4. To send the message, press EMAIL. The following display will appear: If you don't see the display: Dialling for email, then you haven't entered a mobile phone number in the To: box. & The e-m@iler will beep once if the To: box is empty.
