Primary IDE connectors (40-1 pin PRI_IDE, SEC_IDE) These connectors are for an Ultra DMA 100/66 signal cable. The Ultra DMA 100/66 signal cable has three connectors: a blue connector for the primary IDE connector on the motherboard, a black connector for an Ultra DMA 100/66 IDE slave device (optical drive/hard disk drive), and a gray connector for an Ultra DMA 100/66 IDE master device (hard disk drive). If you install two hard disk drives, you must configure the second drive as a slave device by setting its jumper accordingly. Refer to the hard disk documentation for the jumper settings. · Pin 20 on the IDE connector is removed to match the covered hole on the Ultra DMA cable connector. This prevents incorrect insertion when you connect the IDE cable. Use the 80-conductor IDE cable for Ultra DMA 100/66 IDE devices. · SEC_IDE PIN 1 NCL-DS1R2 ® PRI_IDE PIN 1 NOTE: Orient the red markings (usually zigzag) on the IDE ribbon cable to PIN 1. If you installed Serial ATA hard disk drives, you can create a RAID 0 or RAID 1 configuration with the Intel® Matrix Storage Technology through the onboard Intel® ICH5R integrated RAID controller. These connectors are set to S t a n d a r d I D E mode by default. In S t a n d a r d I D E mode, you can connect Serial ATA boot/data hard disk drives to these connectors. If you intend to create a Serial ATA RAID set using these connectors, set the C o n f i g u r e S A T A A s item in the BIOS to [RAID]. The Serial ATA RAID feature (RAID 0/RAID 1) is available only if you are using Windows® 2000/XP. Use only two Serial ATA RAID connectors for each RAID 0 or RAID 1 set. When using the connectors in S t a n d a r d I D E mode, connect the primary (boot) hard disk drive to the SATA1 or SATA2 connector. Ultra320 SCSI connectors (two 68-pin SCSIA1, SCSIB1) This motherboard comes with the Adaptec® AIC-7902W SCSI U320 controller that support two 68-Pin Ultra320 SCSI connectors, one for each of the two channels. Each channel can support a maximum of 15 devices as specified by Ultra320 standards. With Ultra320 devices, the SCSI bus platform performs at full Ultra320 speeds (up to 320MB/s) and extended cabling 12m (or 25m in a point-to-point configuration).
