You can read them with Screen Reader `text-to-speech' software. You must set up the hardware and install the driver before you can use the printer. Please use the Quick Setup Guide to set up the printer. You can find a printed copy in the box or view it on the CD-ROM we have supplied. [. . . ] Pressing Control panel button wakes up the printer to Ready mode. Drum Ready Paper Alarm Toner Data Figure 3-3 Warming up (Blinking at 1 second intervals) The printer is warming up. Drum Ready Paper Alarm Toner Data Cooling down or stop printing (Blinking at 2 second intervals) The printer is cooling down and stops printing until the internal temperature of the printer lowers. Figure 3-4 Receiving data The printer is either receiving data from the computer, processing data in memory or printing the data. If the Data LED is on for a long time and nothing has printed, press the Control panel button to print the remaining data. Drum Ready Paper Alarm Toner Data Figure 3-8 Drum unit near end of life The drum unit is near the end of its life. We recommend that you buy a new drum unit to replace the current one. See Replacing the drum unit on page 5-9. Drum Ready Paper Alarm Toner Data Figure 3-9 CONTROL PANEL 3 - 3 LED Printer status Paper jam Clear the paper jam. See Paper jams and how to clear them on page 6-5. If the printer does not start printing, press the Control panel button. See Printing on plain paper on page 1-8. Misfeed Put the paper back in properly, and then press the Control panel button. The printer will start printing again. Drum Ready Paper Alarm Toner Data Figure 3-10 3 - 4 CONTROL PANEL Service call indications If there is an error that cannot be corrected, the printer will show that a service call is needed by lighting up all the LEDs and then alternating the following combination as shown in Table 1: LED indications when the service error occurs on page 3-6. If you see the service call indication above, turn off the power switch, wait a few seconds, and then turn it back on and try to print again. If you cannot clear the error and see the same service call indication after turning the printer back on, call your dealer or a Brother authorized service center. For example, the LED indication below shows a Fuser Malfunction. Make sure that the front cover is fully closed before you report a service call. 3 - 6 CONTROL PANEL Control panel buttons The control panel buttons have the following functions: Cancel printing If you press the Control panel button while printing, the printer will immediately stop printing and will then eject the paper. Wake-up If the printer is in Sleep mode, press the Control panel button to wake the printer up and go to the Ready state. It will take up to 25 seconds for the printer to reach the Ready state. Form feed If the orange Data LED is on, press the Control panel button. The printer will print any data that is left in the printer memory. Error recovery If there is an error, the printer will recover automatically from some errors. If an error is not automatically cleared, press the Control panel button to clear the error, and then continue to use the printer. Reprint If you want to reprint a document that has just been printed, you can do this by pressing and holding down the Control panel button until all four LEDs are lit and then release the Control panel button.
