" the answering machine is switched on and is ready to answer incoming calls and record any messages, unless Answer Only is selected. Answer Only is an advisory announcement only, so that the machine will not record an incoming message. See page 38 for a full explanation of the outgoing messages available. The display on the base unit shows the number of messages stored in the memory. If you hear "Answer off" the answering machine is switched off. The display on the base unit will flash between a dash and the number of messages saved in the memory.
