[. . . ] Unmanaged RAS is not connected to the BusinessObjects Enterprise Framework or managed by the Enterprise Central Management Server. RAS works in conjunction with Microsoft IIS and/or supported J2EE web application servers to fulfill users' reporting requests over the Web. This flexibility allows web developers to build ASP, . NET Framework, and JSP web applications that incorporate RAS reporting features. The following RAS features work together to deliver reporting services: · Report Application Server (RAS server) The RAS server runs as a Windows service and responds to reporting requests from the RAS SDK. [. . . ] In the Select Features dialog box, ensure that these features are selected: · Report Application SDK · · Sample Applications (optional) Help Files (optional) 6. Click Next and follow the instructions on your screen to complete the installation. Configure the RAS SDK to communicate with your RAS server. For details, see Connecting the RAS SDK to RAS servers on page 11. Configuring RAS components After installing RAS components, you may need to complete additional configurations before you can run the sample applications or begin developing with the RAS SDK: Crystal Reports Server Embedded XI Release 2 Installation Guide 9 1 Installing an Unmanaged Report Application Server Configuring RAS components · For JSP development, you need to set up virtual directories and JAR files on your J2EE web application server. See Creating virtual directories on the web server on page 10 and Accessing the Java SDKs on page 10. If you installed RAS components on separate machines, you must configure the RAS SDK to communicate with your RAS server(s). See Connecting the RAS SDK to RAS servers on page 11. · Creating virtual directories on the web server When the RAS setup program detects Microsoft IIS, it automatically creates virtual directories under the Default Web Site (accessible through the Internet Services Manager). The RAS setup program makes no configuration changes to your J2EE web application server. After completing the installation, you must create the virtual directories according to your J2EE web application server's documentation. RAS requires the following virtual directory: · /crystalreportviewers115 This virtual directory is required by the Viewers SDK. Based on the default installation, this virtual directory must be mapped to the following directory on your web server machine: \Program Files\Business Objects\common\3. 5\crystalreportview ers115\ Accessing the Java SDKs The setup program installs a set of Java Archive (JAR) files that make up the RAS and Viewers Java SDKs. By default, the setup program installs the JAR files to the following directory: \Program Files\Business Objects\common\3. 5\java\lib\ Before you run any RAS web applications, ensure that all files in this directory are accessible to your J2EE web application server. Modify the file to meet your requirements: · To connect the RAS SDK to a Report Application Server running on a different machine, replace with the fully qualified domain name of the machine that is running your Report Application Server. · To balance the reporting load in a "round robin" manner across multiple Report Application Server machines, create additional <ServerInfo> elements and increment the value of the id attribute, as demonstrated in this example: <ServerInfo version="2" xsi:type="CrystalReports. ServerInfo" id="2"> <Server>SERVER01</Server> <Adapter>TCPIP</Adapter> </ServerInfo> <ServerInfo version="2" xsi:type="CrystalReports. ServerIn fo" id="3"> <Server>SERVER02</Server> <Adapter>TCPIP</Adapter> </ServerInfo> Tip: You can override the Server value in clientSDKOptions. xml dynamically, at runtime, through the RAS SDK. This technique is particularly useful if you want each application on a single web server to use its own RAS server for report processing. For details, see "Setting up the development environment" in the Business Objects Developer Library. 12 Crystal Reports Server Embedded XI Release 2 Installation Guide Installing an Unmanaged Report Application Server Working with the Report Application Server 1 Working with the Report Application Server Once you install the Report Application Server, a number of tools are available to you from the Business Objects program group on the Windows Start menu. Central Configuration Manager The Central Configuration Manager (CCM) is a server-management tool that allows you to configure servers for your Business Objects products on Windows. You can start and stop servers, and you can view and configure advanced server settings. The CCM is used with BusinessObjects Enterprise, the Report Application Server, and the BusinessObjects Enterprise Repository. The appearance and functionality of the CCM changes depending upon which Business Objects product components you have installed. The CCM includes online help that explains the functionality available with different members of the Business Objects product family. The online help also describes how to perform common server configuration tasks. To access the help, start the CCM and click Help (or press F1). Report Application Server Launchpad The Report Application Server Launchpad is your starting point to explore and use the Report Application Server, the sample applications, and the developer documentation. BusinessObjects Enterprise Developer Documentation This SDK documentation includes SDK reference material, tutorials, and sample code that show software developers how to build web applications with the COM, Java and .
