To cook foodstuffs with hard crusts like sausages, apples, tomatoes, chestnuts or potatoes, always prick the skin to allow hot steam to release so that the skin will not burst abruptly. Never heat up food or liquids in tightly sealed containers. When the microwave is used for drying herbs, bread etc, close monitoring is needed to ensure that there will be no over drying causing the foodstuffs to burn up. Do not use re-cycled packaging material in the microwave oven as there is a possibility of small metal fragments that will cause sparks.
