If the tape is severed, it may become difficult to pull it out completely. · Pull out the sealing tape completely from the toner cartridge. If the sealing tape remains in the toner cartridge, it may result in a deterioration in print quality. · Dispose of the sealing tape according to local regulations. 12 Hold the grip on the toner cartridge and install it in the machine. Position the triangular mark on the toner cartridge with the triangular mark on the machine and install the toner cartridge. 8 Replacing the Cartridges 8-11 Maintenance When the toner cartridge is installed properly, the label on the cartridge and on the toner cartridge holder will be aligned as shown in the figure. 13 Close the cartridge cover and lower the scanning platform. Maintenance 8 The toner cartridge holder will rotate automatically. 8-12 Replacing the Cartridges Precautions for Handling Toner Cartridges Please use caution when handling the toner cartridges. Careless handling can damage delicate mechanical parts or cause deterioration of the print quality. Please read the following notices before installing or removing the toner cartridges. WARNING Do not burn or throw used toner cartridges into open flames, as this may cause the toner remaining inside the cartridges to ignite resulting in burns or a fire. CAUTION If toner gets onto your hands or clothing, wash it off immediately with cold water. Do not use warm water as this may set the toner permanently, and you may not be able to remove the toner stains. IMPORTANT · If a toner cartridge is removed from the machine during maintenance, attach the protective cover immediately and place it in the protective bag that it came in or wrap it with a thick cloth. Protective cover 8 · Be careful not to hold or touch the prohibited portions such as the sensor or electrical contacts. It may result in damage to the machine. Electrical contacts Sensor Replacing the Cartridges 8-13 Maintenance · Do not touch or hold the developing roller. Do not apply shock to the toner cartridge memory or bring it near magnetic waves. It may result in damage to the machine. Toner cartridge memory Developing roller · When handling a toner cartridge, hold it properly as shown in the figure. Do not set it vertically or upside-down. Maintenance · Never attempt to disassemble or modify the cartridge. · If a toner cartridge is brought to an environment where the temperature differs extremely, 8 condensation may occur both inside and on the outside of the cartridge. If you are going to install a cartridge that was stored in a cold place in a warm room, leave the cartridge stored in the protective bag for over two hours in the warm room so that it can adapt to the ambient temperature. · Be sure to use a new toner cartridge within the expiration date indicated on the package. · Using a genuine Canon toner cartridge is recommended. Storing Toner Cartridges Be careful of the following points for storing new cartridges or those that were removed for maintenance. IMPORTANT · Do not remove a new toner cartridge from the protective bag until it is ready to be used. 8-14 Replacing the Cartridges · If a toner cartridge has to be removed from the machine for maintenance, attach the protective cover immediately and place it in the protective bag that it came in or wrap it with a thick cloth. Protective cover · Do not place it vertically or upside-down. Store a cartridge in the same position as when · · · · Condensation Even within the storable humidity range, water drops may develop both inside and on the outside of the cartridge due to the difference in temperature. The development of water drops is called condensation. Condensation will adversely affect the quality of the toner cartridge. 8 Recycling Used Cartridges Canon has instituted a worldwide recycling program for cartridges called "The Clean Earth Campaign. " This program preserves precious natural resources by utilizing a variety of materials found in the used cartridges that are of no further use, to remanufacture new cartridges which, at the same time, keeps the environment cleaner by reducing landfill waste. Complete details concerning this program are enclosed in each PC Cartridge box. Replacing the Cartridges 8-15 Maintenance installed in the machine.
