Special Features 5-11 5 Copying 5-12 Special Features Scanning CHAPTER This chapter briefly explains how to scan documents into your computer using the scanner driver included in the CD-ROM. 6 Before Scanning Before scanning, software must be installed in your computer. · If not, please see "Install the software and connect the machine to your computer, " in the Set-Up Instructions or Chapter 1, "Installation, " in the Software Guide. This can adversely effect the quality of your printouts (e. g. , copies are completely black). When the machine is exposed to such conditions, allow at least 2 hours for the machine to adjust to room temperature before attempting to use it. · When handling the cartridge, take care not to allow the toner on the jammed paper to come into contact with your hands or clothing. Washing with warm water will set the toner, and make it impossible to remove the toner stains. · Always hold the cartridge as shown so that the side with the instructions (A) faces up. Do not forcefully move or push the drum protective shutter (B) in any way. A 8 B Storage Precautions WARNING Do not store cartridges or copy paper in places exposed to open flames, as this may cause the toner or copy paper to ignite, resulting in burns or a fire.
