The Page Setup dialog box can normally be opened by clicking Page Setup on the File menu. 3 4 5 Click the Utilities button to open the Printer Utility dialog box. Select Cleaning from the drop-down menu, then click the Deep Cleaning icon. Click OK. Now the POWER lamp starts flashing and printhead deep cleaning begins. This process can take up to two minutes. The POWER lamp stops flashing when printhead cleaning is complete. After printhead deep cleaning finishes, print the nozzle check pattern to verify that the printhead is clean. If not, check that there are sufficient ink levels in all ink tanks before turning off the printer. Be sure to perform another printhead deep cleaning 24 hours after turning off the printer. If the head is still not clean, the printhead may be worn out. In this event, contact the Customer Care Center. Printing the Nozzle Check Pattern Printhead Deep Cleaning 79 Routine Maintenance Cleaning the Printer During normal printing, ink and small scraps of paper accumulate in the printer. When the accumulated debris becomes clearly visible, clean the printer by the following procedure. 1 2 Caution Turn the printer off. Ensure that the POWER lamp is off, then unplug the printer. Always ensure that you unplug the printer before cleaning the printer to avoid an electric shock. Cleaning the Printer 80 Routine Maintenance 3 Open the front cover and wipe the interior of the printer with a dry cloth. Wipe away any stray drops of ink, scraps of paper, and dust. Pay special attention to cleaning the black panel, as it can easily become dirty. While cleaning, be careful not to touch the ink absorber (sponge part). If you do not have the original packing materials, pack the printer carefully and thoroughly in protective material and place it inside a sturdy box. 1 2 Important Turn the printer off. Ensure that the POWER lamp is off, then unplug the printer. To protect the printer from damage, do not unplug the printer while the POWER lamp is lit or flashing. Transporting the Printer 82 Routine Maintenance 3 Remove the paper rest and the paper output tray. 4 Disconnect the printer cable from the computer and the printer, then disconnect the power cord from the printer.
