[. . . ] SYSTEM CONTROLLER S C 21 O W N E R 'S M A N U A L 1 REFERENCE TO EC STATEMENT OF CONFORMITY This document confirms that the range of products of Community Professional Loudspeakers bearing the CE label meet all the requirements in the EMC directive 89/336/EEC laid down by the Member States Councel for adjustment of legal requirements, furthermore the products comply to the rules and regulations referring to the electromagnetic compatibility of devices from 30 August 1995. The Community Professional Loudspeakers' products bearing the CE label comply with the following harmonised or national standards: · · · DIN EN 55013:08-1991 DIN EN 55020:05-1995 DIN EN 50082-1:03-1993 The authorized declaration and compatibility certification lie with the manufacturer and can be viewed upon request. The responsible manufacturer is the company: Community Light & Sound, Inc. 333 East 5th Street Chester, PA 19013 USA Tel: 610 876-3400 Fax: 610 874-0190 Chester, PA USA January 1996 2 TABLE OF CONTENTS - SC21 OWNER'S MANUAL CONTENTS PAGE Introduction and Safety Information . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . [. . . ] In no case should the SC21 feed a load below 600 ohms. Other turn ratios may be used but the voltage gains or loses must be accounted for in the system's gain structure. Always use quality transformers from manufacturers such as Jensen or Reichenbach. Lesser quality transformers may seriously degrade the audio quality of the system. Setting the Rear Panel Controls After installing the SC21, remove the rear security cover by undoing its captive screws and adjust the controls under the cover as follows. Sub Gain Control This potentiometer (marked 1 to 10) is used to adjust the gain of the SUB LOW output. The gain is variable from 0 dB to +10 dB and is used to balance the acoustic levels between the subwoofer and fullrange loudspeaker. The correct adjustment must be determined by listening tests because a subwoofer's bass response can vary significantly depending on its placement in a room. Equalization and Protection Settings Refer to Tables 1 and 2 for proper set up of the PROTECTION, F. R. HIGH PASS FREQ, and SUB HIGH PASS FREQ controls. If the full-range cabinet and subwoofer are separated by more than a few feet, optimum polarity should be determined by listening tests. Polarity is changed by reversing the connections to pins 2 and 3 on the XLR connected to the SUB LOW output. 2 Low-to-moderate power levels are indicated by the SUB and FULL RANGE LED's on the SC21's front panel occasionally flashing red with the protection level set as indicated. 3 High power levels are indicated by the SUB and FULL RANGE LED's on the SC21's front panel flashing red more than 25% of the time with the protection level set as indicated. 4 The RSFB or SLS918 can only be used with the VBS415 or SBS45 in passive mode. In biamplified mode the 38 Hz high pass signal for the SUB LOW output could damage the 12" driver in the RSFB or SLS918. 5 Connect the SUB ADJUST (terminal 2) to GROUND (terminal 1) when using Community 8 ohm subwoofers. See section on Use Of SC21 With 8 Ohm Community Subwoofers for further information. 1 22 Indicator Lights (See Figure 1) In Signal Presence When an input signal of greater than -27 dBu is applied to the input stage of the unit, the green LED on the front panel labeled IN - SIGNAL PRESENCE is illuminated green. Sub & Full Range Signal Protect The IntelliSenseTM circuits of the SC21 include two 2-color LED indicators on the front panel: one for the FULL RANGE section and one for the SUB LOW section. They function as both signal presence and protect indicators. The LED's are illuminated green when there is a signal level of 8 dBu or greater present on the sense inputs. The LED's turn red and blink on and off when the sense voltage input is sufficient to activate the loudspeaker protection circuits of the SC21. Each indicator provides valuable information about system operation as follows: 1.
