LAMINATED PLASTICS CUTTING & EDGING SHARPENING BITS & CUTTERS . 33 WOOD JOINTS - HOW TO ROUT THEM: Two Homemade Holding Fixtures . [. . . ] the Dovetail Fixture and the Gui~ Bushings (Page 5), and the 1/2-in. dovetailing you need the fixture and the 1/4-in. template (furnished with guide bushing), and the 1/4-in. The fixture holds both workpieces so that both parts of the dovetail joint are cut simultaneously. All you need do is guide the bit to follow the comb-like edge of the fixture template. Do~e#all Jo/n#/ng All fine cabinetwork uses dovetail joints for joining drawer fronts (and sometimes the backs, too) to the sides . . . and for other joints requiring the best of neatness and strength. But it is practically impossible for anyone other than a highly skilled cabinetmaker to prepare such a joint without using a dovetail bit and template. And KNOB Boards flush at top. Both flush and rabbeted joints can be quickly made with this set un Detailed instructions are packag~ with the accessories. SETTING UP THE DOVETAIL TEMPLATE Install workpieces inside out - the drawer front on top and the drawer side in front - and clamp firm ly as shown. For dovetail at left side of drawer, butt left edges of workpieces against the two locating screws shown; for right side dovetail, use locating screws on right side of template. These screws are placed in different holes depending upon whether a flush or rabbeted dovetai I is to be made. o RAWE R SIDE 18 ~ LockFace Roul-;ng Buff H;nge anel MORTISING DOOR HINGES The large (4-piece) template is especially desirable for anyone having many doors to hang. With it you can quickly and easily make a set-up for 2 or 3 rounded or square hinges up to 5-in. Same set-up can then be used for making doorjamb hinge mortises to match. Also, anyone of the three guides is adjustable for mortising for all standard-size lock faces and plates. The small (one-piece) template is excellent for a homeowner. With it you can set-up to mortise (one at a time) for any number of door hinges. It can be used with any router fitted with a 5/B-in. Set-ups can be made both for the door mortises and the jamb mortises, following instructions packaged with the guide. Two sizes of guides are available: The 3-1/2in. (for most inside door hinges) and a 4-in. (for most outside doors). 19 J. s", 'ns"'ett:l Plss""cs Cuffing an~ E~glng Laminated plastics, phenolics and laminates having similar bonding agents are much too hard to be shaped successfully with ordinary tools. For fast, clean edging without danger of chipping - a carbide-tipped bit should be used ·. . and the bit must be precisely guided in firm contact with the edge. Professional quality trimming can be accomplished in two ways: 1) By using the Laminate Trimmer (page 5) and the Combination Formica Trimmer (Page 4) that is supplied with the trimmer attachment. [. . . ] To make the rabbeted miter first rabbet cut the end of each board I -\ and B). Rabbet x in A must as deep as half the thickness of A and as wide as the thickness of B. Rabbet yin B must be as deep as half the thickness of B and as wide as half the thickness of A. Best layout these cuts in pencil before making them - and allow extra at the board ends to be cut off when mitering. [. . . ]
