[. . . ] Ejecting a tape To remove a tape from the compartment, press the STOP/EJECT button on the front panel or on the remote control. The TV/VCR will eject the tape part-way. Grasp the cassette and remove the tape from the TV/VCR. 18 Chapter 4 : Operating Your VCR Playing a Tape 1. To begin playing a tape, place it in the TV/VCR's cassette compartment. If the erasure prevention tab has been removed, the tape will begin playing automatically. If the erasure prevention tab is intact, press the PLAY button on the front panel or on the remote control. To pause the tape and display a still frame, press the PAUSE/STILL button on the remote control. To stop the tape, press the STOP/EJECT button on the front panel or on the remote control. Press the REW button a second time to search at 7X normal (in SP speed) or 11X normal (in EP. ) If you press FF or REW while the tape is stopped, the TV/VCR will quickly wind your tape in the selected direction. No picture from the tape will be displayed, but the tape moves at a much higher speed without the picture. Chapter 4 : Operating Your VCR 19 Tracking "Tracking" is a term that describes how the TV/VCR "locks on" to the signal recorded on the tape. If the TV/VCR is not tracking correctly, the picture during playback will be jumpy and distorted. Your TV/VCR is equipped with a sophisticated automatic tracking feature that can perfectly track a tape's signal without adjustment from the user. On some rare occasions, though, manual tracking may be required. Press and hold down the CH buttons on the remote control, one at a time. Adjust the tracking using these buttons until the picture is no longer distorted. Basic Recording Your TV/VCR makes it easy to record a program you are watching. Place the tape on which you want to record in the cassette compartment. Fast forward or rewind to the point where you want to begin recording. Press the SPEED button repeatedly to select the tape speed at which you want to record : SP or EP 4. The tape will start recording the channel you are watching, and also add an index mark.
