A00 Replacing the Display This document describes how to replace the display in your Dell Latitude C400 computer. The display and the top cover of the computer are designed to be removed and replaced as one unit. CAUTION: Before performing the following procedures, read "Safety and EMC Instructions: Portable Computers" in your System Information guide. Removing the Display NOTICE: To avoid electrostatic discharge, ground yourself by using a wrist grounding strap or by periodically touching an unpainted metal surface (such as the back panel) on the computer. Put the screws aside in a safe place. Display Screws 7 Turn the computer right-side up and open the display all the way. 6 Re plac ing the Display 8 Disconnect the display cable assembly from the computer base. 1 4 2 3 1 2 3 4 a b 12-mm securing board screws (2) securing board pull tab display cable assembly Remove the two 12-mm screws from the securing board. Use the pull tab to pull the securing board up out of its connector. Replacing the Display 7 w w w. c o m 9 Pivot the display upright and lift it out of the computer. 8 Re plac ing the Display Installing the New Display 1 Position the replacement display upright and align its hinges with the slots at the back corners of the computer. Ensure that the display cable assembly is positioned well in front of the display to avoid trapping or pinching the cable when you insert the display. Carefully insert the display hinges into the slots. 2 3 Ensure that the display is fully seated, and then carefully pivot it back until it is completely open. Replacing the Display 9 w w w. c o m 4 Press the display-cable securing board firmly into its connector in the computer base, and replace the two 12-mm screws you removed in step 8 of the previous procedure (or use the new screws provided with the display kit). 10 Re plac ing the Display 5 Close the display, turn the computer over, and replace the two 6-mm screws at the back corners of the computer. 6 Turn the computer right-side up, open it all the way, and replace the center cover: Carefully position the cover, and then press down first on the center and then on the back ridge of the cover to snap those areas into place.
