To get the very best out of your new coffee machine it is advisable to read these instructions before using the appliance. This is the only way to ensure optimum results and maximum safety. Using for the first time Before using the machine for the first time, wash all the accessories in warm soapy water and rinse. For the best tasting coffee the internal circuits must be flushed through at least five times. To do this follow the instructions in the paragraph "Preparing the filter coffee" using just water. [. . . ] The milk will increase its volume and will be creamer. When the volume of milk has doubled, immerse the steam nozzle deeper into the milk to continue to froth and heat the milk (fig. Froth the milk until the steam in the boiler has been completely used up: this will prevent the milk becoming trapped inside the steam tube. Press the ON/OFF switch for espresso/cappuccino to turn off the appliance. 10. Pour the frothed milk over the coffee, with the aid of a spoon. Then, as a final touch, sprinkle a bit of cocoa powder over the frothy milk to make a perfect cappuccino. 11. In order to make 4 cappuccinos, it is necessary to repeat the previous operation, paying attention to the quantity of ground coffee and water, indicated in the chart page 10. Before turning the Vario System selector to "cappuccino", brew the coffee into the small espresso carafe until it reaches level 4 on the COFFEE LEVEL side (fig. If necessary, clean the holes with a pin or needle. · Clean the steam exit tube carefully to avoid being burnt. · Screw the steam nozzle back into place. CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE fig. 27 · Before performing any cleaning operations, the machine must have cooled down and must be disconnected from the mains power supply. · Never immerse the machine in the water: it is an electrical appliance. · Do not use solvents or abrasive detergents to clean the coffee maker. · Regularly clean the filter holder, the removable drip tray, the boiler outlet, and the carafes. Do not wash the filter holder in the dish washer. · From time to time check that the holes in the filter for espresso coffee are not obstructed. If necessary, carefully clean the filter with hot water, scrubbing with an abrasive pad.
