[. . . ] Sociedad Unipersonal offers you our thanks for the confidence you place in us in your purchase of your new model GP1. This manual will explain the principal details of how to maintain this scooter so you can get a longer duration with a minimum cost and the best performance. DERBI's quality will take care of everything else, we are sure that you will get complete satisfaction with the use of this vehicle, with the original spare parts and a National web of more than four thousand agents and shops. If you encounter any problem, refer to the nearest distributor. [. . . ] The coolant must always be slightly below the maximum level, never above it. When the engine heats up, the cap could come flying off and cause irreparable damage to the vehicle and injure the rider. To change the cooling liquid, remove the expansion tank filler cap and unscrew the securing screw for the coolant hose which goes from the water pump to the radiator, thus draining all the liquid. After first refitting the securing screw, refill the system with freezing point 18ºC. Antifreeze liquid, pouring the liquid in through the water filler cap in the expansion tank, being careful that the cooling liquid does not pass the maximum level. Excess liquid causes an overflow through the filler cap when the motorcycle is running. Separate lubrication This scooter has a separate lubrication system, which has an oil tank under the front shield and an intake pump on the left-hand crankcase. The reservoir, which has a capacity of 1, 7 litres, is fitted with a reserve indicator which causes the oil reserve warning light on the instrument panel to light up when the level of the lubricant falls to only 0. Carburettor A perfectly operating carburettor is the basis of good performance from the engine. the carburettor has been adjusted in the factory to give the best possible carburation. Do not attempt to alter this adjustment. NOTE: It is a good idea to clean the carburettor periodically using clean petrol and high pressure air. The adjustment screw is accessed from the right-hand side of the scooter. Adjust the idling with the engine and lights on. Screw or unscrew the adjustment button until the engine is ticking over regularly and the rear wheel is not being moved by the engine. Adjustment of the idle speed must be carried out when the engine is hot. After adjusting the idling, alter the play of the throttle. It is altered with a screw located where the cable joins the throttle. Cleaning the air filter The air filter foam is inside the filter casing, which is on the right-hand side of the scooter. NOTE: If the filter foam becomes blocked with dust, resistance to the intake of air will increase, and this will cause a reduction in the power output and an increase in the fuel consumption. It is recommended to clean the filter foam every 5, 000 kilometres, following the steps below: - Unscrew the screws securing the filter box cover. Submerge the foam a number of times until it is perfectly clean. [. . . ] Do not replace the drain plug, but instead plug the drain hole with clean cloth. Pour in through the spark plug hole 10 to 15 cc of anti-corrosion oil through the spark plug hole. Turn the engine over until it is entirely coated and protected. - Grease all metal parts with an anti-oxidant grease; nowadays there are sprays on the market which are perfect for this purpose.
