Do not leave the printer with the ink cartridges removed. 1. Do one of the following. ❏ When prompted to replace ink cartridges Check which ink cartridge needs to be replaced, and then press the OK button. Select Replace now, and then press the OK button. ❏ When replacing ink cartridges before they are expended From the home screen, select Menu > Maintenance > Ink Cartridge Replacement, and then press the OK button. 2. Remove the ink cartridge from its package and then remove only the yellow tape. 3. Open the inner cover. 6. Push the lever to unlock the ink cartridge, and then pull out the cartridge diagonally. 7. Insert the ink cartridge diagonally into the cartridge holder and gently push it down until it clicks into place. 58 User's Guide Replacing Ink Cartridges and Other Consumables c Important: ink cartridge in the correct direction. If the cartridge is inserted in the wrong direction, the ❏ Insert the insertion area may be damaged and the printer may not be able to print. ❏ Make sure you insert the black cartridge into the left holder, and the color cartridge into the right holder. 8. T2950 Maintenance Box Handling Precautions Read the following instructions before replacing the maintenance box. ❏ Do not touch the green chip on the side of the maintenance box. Doing so may prevent normal operation and printing. ❏ Do not press or remove the film on the box; otherwise ink may leak. ❏ Do not touch the sections shown in the illustration. Doing so may prevent normal operation and you may get smeared with ink. ❏ Do not seal the holes of the maintenance box. These are necessary to operate normally. ❏ Keep the maintenance box out of direct sunlight. ❏ Do not replace the maintenance box when the printer is on; otherwise, ink may leak. 60 User's Guide Replacing Ink Cartridges and Other Consumables ❏ Do not reuse a maintenance box which has been removed and left detached for a long period. Ink inside the box will have solidified and no more ink can be absorbed. ❏ Do not remove the maintenance box and its cover except when replacing the maintenance box; otherwise ink may leak. Replacing a Maintenance Box In some print cycles a very small amount of surplus ink may be collected in the maintenance box. To prevent ink leakage from the maintenance box, the printer is designed to stop printing when the absorbing capacity of the maintenance box has reached its limit.
