The pull tube needs to be held up until it is connected to the lower board arms to prevent it from scratching the slider tube. Hold at an angle as shown. 9. Figure 5 4 10. Attach the Lower Board Arms (#4) to the upper pole section as follows (refer to figure 6): IMPORTANT!The hole in the Lower Board Arm (#4) is not centered - one end of the Board Arm is longer than the other. The longer end of both Lower Board Arms should face the rear of the pole (the side with the slider bar attached to it). The dimple in the Board Arm should be against the pole. Use a 7-1/2" hex bolt (#16) and flat washer (#13), through the lower board arm and a nylon washer (#9) and then through the middle hole in the upper pole section. Push the bolt all the way through the pole section and attach another nylon washer (#9), the other lower board arm (#4), and secure with a flat washer (#13) and hex nut (#14). Attach pull tube to lower board arms as shown in Figure 7. Use a 6" hex bolt (#17), six flat washers (#8), two spacers (#18), and a hex nut (#7). Tighten the hex nut (#7) just until it touches the washer and there is no loose space between any parts. At this time, go back and tighten hex nut (#14) from step 10 snugly, but do not overtighten. NOTE: Do not overtighten hex nuts in steps 11 and 12. the Lower Board Arms must be able to pivot freely. Figure 7 13. Next, attach a board bracket (#10) to one of the lower board arms. Make sure to align the hole patterns exactly as shown in Figure 8. Use a hex bolt (#15), two flat washers (#8), a nylon washer (#9), and a hex nut (#7). Tighten the hex nut snugly, but do not overtighten. Repeat step 13 for the other lower board arm. Place the 4" square cap (#6) snugly over the top end of the upper pole section, and tap 1" round caps (#33) into the ends of upper board arms (#5) with the larger holes. [. . . ] Straighten pole with a level (check from all sides). (See Figure 12) NOTE: Straighten pole by checking the top tube #1, not the middle or the bottom tubes. The tubes may be slightly angled at the joint and it is more important that the upper portion of the pole (where the backboard and goal attach) is straight [plumb], not the bottom.
