P1088LEG 527. 25404 P1088RAIL 527. 25406 READ THESE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY! 2L-6655-00 IMPORTANT! [. . . ] Be sure they are square, in line and butted up tight against center piece #10. Secure end pieces #9 to slats using screws #31 into countersunk holes. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN SCREWS! NOTE: See slate leveling and shimming on next page. TOP SURFACE OF SLATE MUST BE LEVELED PRECISELY!Edges of slate must be even with one another. Page 6 SHIMMING INSTRUCTIONS General Rules n Accomplish the leveling of slate with as few shims as possible. Do not tap with a hammer or tighten screws unreasonable tight. You will not be able to compress the slate. Shims #38 are meant only to raise the low places at the seams and ends. Very short and low places should be grouted. Most leveling can be accomplished by working with the frame. n If power tools are used, be sure only enough torque is used to do the job. n Seams can best be checked by passing your finger over the seam joint and feeling if it is flush. n All screws must be tightened after shimming. n No two sets of slate are exactly alike. Some sets require more, or less, shimming than others. Figure 12 20. STEP BY STEP SHIMMING PROCEDURE A) Be sure table is set in its final location. B) Table must be as level as possible before shimming. Large differences in levelness must be corrected by raising or lowering frame with shim stock. C) Tighten down all slate mounting screws. D) Check with a carpenter's level to determine where slate is low on ends, and use finger tips to locate uneven spots at the seams. Loosen screws at these points and see if slate comes up to flush. If so, detach individual shims #38 from the sheet shipped with this table and place under these areas. [. . . ] Hold apron in place and spot the location of the mounting holes on the rails. Punch pilot holes in rail using an awl (or 8d nail) and hammer. This will require the help of another person. (See Figure 22) NOTE: To help drive screws into rails, put a little dry soap on threads of screw. Figure 22 Page 10 Figure 23 46. [. . . ]
