We can't cure you of a tendency to procrastinate, of course, but there is a simple and effective method of planning that lets you focus on what is most important to you, without overloading yourself. NOTE During the Weekly Planning process (see "Weekly Planning" on page 115) you can drag-and-drop your intermediate steps directly into Microsoft Outlook. 97 Goals Create a New Goal To create a new Goal: 1. Click the Goals button from the PlanPlus toolbar, or the Goals button from the FranklinCovey shortcut bar. Click the Goals button on the PlanPlus toolbar . . . . . . or on the FranklinCovey shortcut bar 2. In the Goals screen, click New Goal. Click New Goal 3. Enter the description of the new goal, and the deadline. 98 How do I identify a Goal? You can use a Date dialog box to choose the deadline date by clicking in the Deadline box, then clicking the down arrow symbol. NOTE Enter the new Goal 4. You can enter details about the goal, such as why it is important to you and what you want to accomplish, in the panel on the right-hand side of the Goals screen. Enter any details you would like about the goals in the righthand panel 5. To add an intermediate step to your goal (remember, you must break down your goal into manageable pieces), click to select the desired goal, then click Add Intermediate Step. Choose one of the following options: ­ Mark Completed. This is used when you have already created an intermediate step and wish to mark it as Completed. When you choose this option, the standard Appointment box will appear to let you enter an appointment. When you choose this option, the standard Task box will appear to let you enter a Daily or Master task. 6. 99 Goals ­ Delete Intermediate Step. This is used when you have already created an intermediate step and wish to delete it. Choose an option for the Intermediate Step 7. When you have finished adding intermediate steps, all intermediate steps will appear below the goal. You can choose to edit the intermediate steps from within the Goals screen, or you can go to the Calendar or Tasks list to edit them. Goals Toolbar When you are creating a Goal, a toolbar appears that gives you the following options. Four of the options are standard Windows formatting commands. Create New Goal Cut Copy Paste Add an Intermediate Step Delete Goal New Goal. Click this button to add a task or appointment in support of the new Goal. Click this button to delete the selected Goal. Click this button to cut the selected text (also places the text on the Windows Clipboard). Click this button to copy the selected text to the Windows Clipboard. Click this button to paste the text on the Clipboard in the selected location. Identify and Achieve Goals with the Wizard To aid you in identifying and achieving Goals, PlanPlus includes a Wizard that steps you through the process. 100 Examples of Goals (and intermediate steps) To start the Goals Wizard: 1.
