When you join a squad, a Field Upgrade meter appears in the top left-hand corner of your HUD. Carrying out an action that benefits the squad (such as healing a squadmate, repairing a squad member's vehicle, or killing an enemy) near a point where your Squad Leader has placed an order fills part of the meter. When you fill the bar, you earn a Field Upgrade unlock.
