[. . . ] Bonuses disappear, and hazards appear, at a faster rate as the game goes on. Eventually, there may be so many holes in the board that it becomes impossible to form new words, and the game ends. Shuffling ­ When you're in a jam and can't find any words, try shuffling the tiles. There is a price to pay for shuffling, though -- it costs you a turn and at least one extra Hazard appears. Level Bonuses ­ The game awards bonuses for finishing the level in as few plays as possible. Each level starts with the maximum bonus, which is reduced with each turn you take. After several turns, the bonus becomes zero. Controls: Left-click on tile = select tile Left-click on selected tile = de-select tile Right-click = de-select all tiles PLAY = submit highlighted series of letter tiles as a word play SHUFFLE = shuffle tiles on game board (penalty incurred) GIVE UP = stop game To Form a Word ­ Click on any letter tile to start. That tile will be selected (highlighted) and will be the first letter in your word. Click on any tile adjacent to the first tile to continue forming a word. Arrows appear over the tiles to show the sequence of letters you have selected. Form words of any length (up to a maximum of 15 letters) by continuing to click on adjacent letters in this manner. Finding longer words and words with Bonuses and high-valued letters is desirable. The Text Box at the bottom of the game board shows your word-in-progress. When you have linked together at least two tiles and wish to submit this as a word, click on PLAY. If the word is acceptable by SCRABBLE game rules, you are awarded the SCRABBLE point value for that word. The Chain ­ Watch the chain at the bottom of the board. A level of gameplay is finished when a complete chain is formed. High-scoring words build the chain more quickly than low-scoring words. 24 25 Diction or Fiction Diction or Fiction is for real word lovers. It is a simple, fast-moving mini-game that tests your knowledge of obscure, funny, strange, tricky and rare words. Though the game is mainly for fun, it also helps true SCRABBLE game aficionados build their obscure-word capacity -- a must if one plans to play in tournaments at a competitive level. All of the real words used in Diction or Fiction are officially acceptable words. The object is to keep playing as long as you can and rack up the highest score possible.
