This memo cancels the requirement to overfly a known location as part of the acceptable means of compliance described in Advisory Circular (AC) 20-138,  Airworthiness Approval of Global Positioning System (GPS) Navigation Equipment for Use as a VFR and IFR Supplemental Navigation System,  and AC 20-130A,  Airworthiness Approval of Navigation or Flight Management Systems Integrating Multiple Navigation Sensors. This memo cancels the overflight fight test included in the following paragraphs: AC 20-138: Paragraphs (7)(c)(1)(iv)(D),  (7)(c)(2)(iii) (included by reference),  (8)(c)(1)(iv)(J),  (8)(c)(2)(iv)(H) (included by reference); (8)(c)(1)(iv)(F)(1),  (9)(c)(1)(iv)(K)(1),  (9)(c)(2)(iv)(H)(1) (included by reference). 

AC 20-130A: Paragraphs

Field experience has shown that the overflight tests are not necessary in order to ensure that the GPS equipment is installed and functioning properly.
