Keep in mind that smoke detectors can be activated by sources of steam, smoke, or airborne dust that can occur during normal activities. Manually Resetting Hardwired Smoke Detectors Manually resetting a smoke detector following a test or alarm resets tripped detectors. This procedure is rarely needed because smoke detectors are automatically reset when an alarm is acknowledged or canceled.
