It also provides superb cinema-quality audio playback ­ in stereo or with digital multi-channel sound ­ depending on the type of DVD and the HiFI system or stereo television. Other features of DVD video include the choice of audio channel and language, choice of subtitle language, and various camera recording angles. In addition to DVDs, your DVD player can also play MP3, video and audio CDs. [. . . ] You can stop playback at any point by pressing »STOP/RETURN 7« twice. Removing the DVD/video CD 1 Press »OPEN/CLOSE « to open the disc compartment. 14 DVD/VIDEO CD PLAYBACK _____________________________________________________ Additional playback functions Note: The sound is muted with the "frame-search", "slow-motion" and "freezeframe" functions. If the » -« symbol appears, then this function is not possible with this DVD/video CD. Video search You can choose from among six different speeds (forwards or backwards). 4 FAST 2X 1 During playback, select the desired playback speed with » 3 FR/SR« or » 4 FF/SF«. 3 FAST 4 X 2 To resume playback, press »PLAY/PAUSE 8 !«. Slow motion II PAUSE You can choose from among three different speeds (forwards or backwards). 1 Press »PLAY/PAUSE I SLOW 1/2 8 !« during playback. 2 Select the slow motion speed by pressing » 3 FR/SR« or » 4 FF/SF«. 3 To resume playback, press »PLAY/PAUSE 8 !«. Repeating a chapter or a title These functions repeat the current chapter or title. REPEAT OFF ­ Display »REPEAT OFF« ­ the function is stopped. 15 ENGLISH DVD/VIDEO CD PLAYBACK _____________________________________________________ Repeating a selected scene (A-B Repeat) You can use this function to select the beginning and end of a scene, and then play it over and over. A TO B SET A A- * 1 During playback, mark the beginning of the scene with »A-B«. ­ »A -« appears on the DVD-player display, and »A TO B »A - « appear on the screen. SET A« and * A TO B SET B A-B 2 To mark the end of the scene, press »A-B« again. ­ »A« appears on the DVD-player display, and »A TO B »A - B« appear on the screen. ­ The selected scene is repeated over and over. SET B« and A TO B - CANCELLED * * 3 To stop this function, press »A-B« again. Selecting the camera angle for particular scenes or passages Many DVDs contain scenes or passages which were filmed several times from different camera angles. You can choose from among these different angles. If DVD offers this function, » « appears on the television screen. 1/3 1 During playback press »ANGLE« to select the camera angle function. ­ The » 1/3 « display indicates the camera angle ­ number 1 in this example. 2/3 2 Select a different camera angle by pressing »ANGLE«. Enlarging the picture and moving screen sections (Zoom) 1 During playback or pause, press »ZOOM« once, twice or three times. k ZOOM X2 ­ Display: » k ZOOM X2«, » k ZOOM X4«, » k ZOOM X8«, and the DVD player enlarges a section of the screen. 2 You can move the screen section by pressing »a «, »s«, »A« or »S«. ZOOM OFF 3 Deactivate the function by pressing »ZOOM«. ­ Display: » ZOOM OFF«. Changing the dubbed language This adjustments switches out of the preset dubbed language, when the DVD offers alternatives. 1 Press »AUDIO« during playback. AUDIO 1/3 : Dolby Digital 5. 1 ENGLISH ­ Display: for example »AUDIO 1/3 : Dolby Digital 5. 1 ENGLISH« appears briefly, and the current dubbed language is displayed. AUDIO 2/3 : Dolby Digital 5. 1 GERMAN 2 To set the desired language, press »AUDIO« repeatedly. 16 DVD/VIDEO CD PLAYBACK _____________________________________________________ Selecting and displaying subtitles If the current DVD provides subtitles, they can be displayed on your TV screen. When subtitles in several languages are available, you can select your language of choice. 1 Press »SUBTITLE« during playback. SUBTITLE 01/14 : ENGLISH ­ Display: for example »SUBTITLE 01/14 : ENGLISH« appears briefly, and the current dubbed language is displayed. SUBTITLE 02/14 : GERMAN 2 To set the language for the subtitles, press »SUBTITLE« repeatedly. Note: To switch off the subtitles, keep pressing »SUBTITLE« until »SUBTITLE OFF« appears in the display. SUBTITLE OFF Selecting and playing scenes You can mark up to five scenes on the DVD, which you can then select directly during playback. Setting or deleting markers 1 Press »MARKER« during playback. MARKER ----SEL ­ Display: »MARKER - - - - - «. 2 Press »SELECT« to mark the scene. MARKER ---SEL ­ Display: »MARKER - - - - «. Note: Press »s« or »a« to select the next marker and »SELECT« to mark the scene. 3 Press »MARKER« to switch off the display. Note: To delete a marker press »MARKER«. Select the marker to be deleted with »s« or »a« and press »CLEAR« to delete it. Playing selected scenes 1 Press »MARKER« during playback. 2 Select the desired marker with »s« or »a« and press »SELECT« to confirm. ­ The display disappears and playback starts at the marked scene. 3 To play back a different marker, repeat steps 1 and 2. 17 ENGLISH VIDEO CD PLAYBACK _______________________________________________________________ Creating a video programme You can use this function to create your very own video programme. Note: Opening the disc compartment deletes the programme. Selecting a title 1 Switch on the television and select the channel for the DVD player, open the disc compartment, insert the video CD and close the compartment. 2 Switch the DVD player to STOP by pressing »STOP/RETURN 7«. 3 Call up the » PROGRAM « display by pressing »PROGRAM«. ­ Display: »PROGRAM P00 :00«. 4 Enter the title using »1 . . . 0 « and press »SELECT« to confirm. ­ Display: »PROGRAMM P01 :01« (P01 for the programmed title, 01 for the number of the title). Note: Repeat step 4 to program additional titles. You can program up to 99 titles. 5 Start playback of the video programme by pressing »PLAY/PAUSE 8 !«. 6 End playback of the video programme by pressing »STOP/RETURN 7«. Deleting the video programme 1 Press »STOP/RETURN 7« to switch the DVD player to STOP, then press »OPEN/CLOSE «. ­ The disc compartment opens and the video programme is deleted. Playing back titles in random order This function allows the titles on the video CD to be played back in random order. 1 Switch the DVD player to STOP by pressing »STOP/RETURN 7«. 2 Press »SHUFFLE«. ­ »SHUFFLE« appears on the DVD display. 3 Press »PLAY/PAUSE 8 !« to start playback. 18 VIDEO CD PLAYBACK _______________________________________________________________ Search functions This function gives you three ways to look for sections of scenes. 1 Press »STOP/RETURN 7« to switch the DVD player to Stop mode. 2 Press »DIGEST« to call up the menu. [. . . ] Remove all obstacles which may impair the path of the remote control signal. Check or replace the remote control batteries.
