[. . . ] If a quota is associated with an email address, and the quota exceeds the soft or hard limit, a notification message will be sent to the address specified. Note: Because the quota system does not pre-allocate space, it is possible to have a quota larger than the available space on the file volume. 126 HP StorageWorks NAS 8000 User's Guide Managing Your Storage Enabling or Disabling Quotas in a File Volume To enable or disable a quota: 1. In Command View NAS, click the Storage tab. Under File Volumes, select Quotas to show a list of existing file volumes. Select the file volume you want to enable or disable. If a file volume does not have quotas enabled, its icon will be grayed out. Select Actions > Enable/Disable Quotas. If the file volume is: Disabled, enabling may take several minutes as the system gathers usage information about users and groups. Enabled, disabling quotas applies to both users and groups. Managing User Quotas To view and edit user quotas on the NAS server: 1. In the Command View NAS, click the Storage tab. In the table that appears in the main window, expand the file volume for which you want to configure a quota. Double-click User Quotas - Default to display a list of users who have settings other than the default. The table listing displays the following information for each individual user quota: -- User associated with the quota -- Space consumed by the user -- Soft limit of the quota (disk space) that you can temporarily exceed before cleaning up -- Hard limit of the quota (disk space) that cannot be surpassed by the user -- Grace period of the quota -- Email address of person to notify about exceeding space limitations. You can refresh the information in the table by clicking Actions > Refresh. 127 Managing Your Storage Managing a User Default Quota To edit User Quotas - Default settings: 1. In Command View NAS, click the Storage tab. Select Actions > Manage User Default Quota. Either check the No Space Limit box, or uncheck the box and type in values for the soft and hard limits. Set the grace period in increments of days, hours, or minutes. Click OK to save the changes. Note: Only one grace period can be set per file volume. Therefore, the same grace period applies to both the default user settings and each user. Adding a User Quota To add a user quota: 1. In Command View NAS, click the Storage tab. Select a Domain Name and User Name from the drop-down lists. -- Either check the Use Default Quota Limits box, or uncheck the box and type in the values of the soft and hard limits. [. . . ] TCP/IP stands for Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol. Telnet A protocol that provides console services remotely. The Telnet program runs on your computer and connects your PC to the NAS server through the network. You can enter commands through the Telnet program and they are executed as if you were entering them directly on the server console. [. . . ]
