Connecting the Front Panel Header
Before connecting the front panel header, observe the precautions in "Before You Begin" on page 27. Figure 13-D on page 50 shows the location of the front panel header. Table 12 shows the pin assignments for the front panel header.

Setting Up Full 6-Channel Surround Sound (Optional)
After installing the SoundMAX* 4 XL audio driver from the Intel Express Installer CD-ROM, the multi-channel audio feature can be enabled. Figure 15 shows the location of back panel audio connectors.

Multi-Channel Analog Audio
Connect two speakers to the front left/right out (C) and two speakers to the rear left/right out (A) for both 4- and 6-channel audio configurations. For 6-channel audio, connect two additional speakers to the center LFE out (E).
Multi-Channel Digital Audio
Two types of S/PDIF connectors are available: coaxial (G) and optical (F). Select the proper connector according to the style of S/PDIF speakers that will be used.

Multi-Channel Analog Audio
Connect two speakers to the front left/right out (B) and two speakers to the rear left/right out (A) for both 4- and 6-channel audio configurations. For 6-channel audio, connect two additional speakers to the center LFE out (C).
Multi-Channel Digital Audio
To take advantage of the S/PDIF functionality, a 1/8-inch stereo phone plug to the RCA jack adapter/splitter is required to convert from the stereo input to RCA connection. Connect the stereo input side of the adapter to the S/PDIF (B) connector, and connect the speaker system or S/PDIF decoder to the RCA jack left channel (white, if colored).

Connecting Hardware Control Cables
See Figure 17 for fan and chassis intrusion header locations. Connect the processor's fan heat sink cable to the processor fan header on the board. Connect chassis fan cables to the board fan headers. Connect the chassis intrusion cable to the respective header on the board.
Connecting Power Cables CAUTION
Failure to use an ATX12V power supply, or not connecting the 12 V processor core voltage power supply connector to the desktop board may result in damage to the desktop board and/or power supply. Figure 17 shows the location of the power connectors. Observe the precautions in "Before You Begin" on page 27. Connect the 12 V processor core voltage power supply cable to the 2x2 connector. Connect the main power supply cable to the 2x10 connector.
