[. . . ] Before use Inserting the batteries Open the battery compartment by pushing the cover in the direction of the arrow. Put in two "AA" batteries and close the compartment. The LCD display REC/BATT lights up brightly during recording if the batteries are fully charged. If the display is only weak, the batteries are empty and should be replaced. [. . . ] Pause You can stop the micro-cassette during playing, recording or forward- or rewinding. Running speed You can choose between two running speeds: 2. 4: Normal speed: this setting is compatible with most micro-cassette recorders which only have one speed. With this setting you will achieve the best sound quality. 2: Longer recording time: at this speed the recording time is doubled, the sound quality however is impaired. Normal recording In this mode the machine records continuously. push the TAPE SPEED switch to the desired recording speed. Push the VAC switch to OFF and press the record button ¹. To record, speak with normal volume into the in-built microphone ¸ or attach a microphone to the microphone connection MIC . Note: Should you not be able to press the record button ¹, then there is either no cassette in the dictating machine or the recording-protection has been removed from the cassette. In this case, simply stick a piece of adhesive tape over the gap of the recording-protection, at the top, on the sides of the micro-cassette. Speech-controlled recording In this mode, the dictating machine only records when someone is speaking. As soon as there is a speech pause of a few seconds, the machine stops recording until speech begins again. push the TAPE SPEED switch to the desired recording speed. Push the VAC switch to ON and then press the record button ¹. To record, speak with normal volume into the in-built microphone ¸ or connect a microphone to the microphone connection MIC . adjust the microphone sensitivity , until your voice activates the dictating machine. Note: It is possible that the dictating machine does not record in the first few seconds after turning itself on. The dictating machine will not stop if the speech volume changes. [. . . ] Should loops have developed inside the cassette, remove these before inserting the cassette into the dictating machine. To do this, push a pencil into one of the holes in the cassette and turn it in the direction of the edge until the loops have disappeared. Cleaning Clean the drive spools and the playing head with a cotton bud, which has been moistened with alcohol. Clean the casing with a soft, damp cloth. [. . . ]
