[. . . ] Guarding against exhaust fumes Although odorless and colorless, carbon monoxide is present in exhaust fumes. Take precautions to avoid its dangerous effects. If you ever smell exhaust fumes of any kind inside your vehicle, have your dealer inspect and fix your vehicle immediately. Do not drive if you smell exhaust fumes. These fumes are harmful and could kill you. 94 Starting Have the exhaust and body ventilation systems checked whenever: · the vehicle is raised for service. · the sound of the exhaust system changes. · the vehicle has been damaged in a collision. Important ventilating information If the engine is idling while the vehicle is stopped in an open area for long periods of time, open the windows at least 2. 5 cm (one inch). Adjust the heating or air conditioning (if equipped) to bring in fresh air. Improve vehicle ventilation by keeping all air inlet vents clear of snow, leaves and other debris. 95 Driving BRAKES Your brakes are self-adjusting. Refer to the "Service Guide" for scheduled maintenance. Occasional brake noise is normal and often does not indicate a performance concern with the vehicle's brake system. In normal operation, automotive brake systems may emit occasional or intermittent squeal or groan noises when the brakes are applied. Such noises are usually heard during the first few brake applications in the morning; however, they may be heard at any time while braking and can be aggravated by environmental conditions such as cold, heat, moisture, road dust, salt or mud. If a "metal-to-metal, " "continuous grinding" or "continuous squeal" sound is present while braking, the brake linings may be worn-out and should be inspected by a qualified service technician. Anti-lock brake system (ABS) On vehicles equipped with an anti-lock braking system (ABS), a noise from the hydraulic pump motor and pulsation in the pedal may be observed during ABS braking events. Pedal pulsation coupled with noise while braking under panic conditions or on loose gravel, bumps, wet or snowy roads is normal and indicates proper functioning of the vehicle's anti-lock brake system. If the vehicle has continuous vibration or 96 Driving shudder while braking, felt mainly in the steering wheel, the vehicle most likely needs service. The ABS operates by detecting the onset of wheel lock up during brake applications and compensating for this tendency. The front wheels are prevented from locking even when the brakes are firmly applied. The accompanying illustration depicts the advantage of an ABS equipped vehicle (on bottom) to a non-ABS equipped vehicle (on top) during hard braking. ABS warning lamp The ABS warning lamp in the instrument cluster illuminates for about five seconds when starting the vehicle. [. . . ] Service refill capacities are determined by filling the rear axle 6 mm to 14 mm (1/4 inch to 9/16 inch) below the bottom of the filler hole. Rear axles are considered lubricated for life when the vehicle is used for normal service. See your "Service Guide" for Severe Duty requirements. 180 Capacities and specifications LUBRICANT SPECIFICATIONS Item Brake master cylinder Door weatherstrips Engine coolant Engine oil Ford part name Ford part number C6AZ19542-AB Ford specification ESA-M6C25-A, DOT 3 ESR-M13P4-A High Performance DOT 3 Motor Vehicle Brake Fluid Silicone Lubricant C0AZ-19553AA and D7AZ19553-AA Ford Premium E2FZ-19549Cooling System AA Fluid Motorcraft 5W-30 XO-5W30Super Premium QSP Motor Oil Multi-Purpose Grease Penetrating Lubricant Motorcraft MERCON ATF Motorcraft MERCON V ATF ESE-M97B44-A Hinges, latches and striker plates Lock cylinders Power steering reservoir Automatic transmission (4R70W) Windshield washer fluid reservoir Rear axle1 1 WSS-M2C153-G with API Certification Mark DOAZ-19584- ESR-M1C159-A AA and ESB-M1C93-B E8AZN/A 19501-B XT-2-QDX MERCON XT-5-QM MERCON V Ultra-Clear C9AZ-19550- ESR-M17P5-A Windshield Washer AC or BC Concentrate Motorcraft Premium XY-80W90-QL WSL-M2C197-A Rear Axle Lubricant Add 118 ml (4 oz. ) of EST-M2C118A (friction modifier Part No. C8AZ-19B546A) for complete refill of Ford Traction-Lok rear axles. 181 Capacities and specifications ENGINE DATA Engine Cubic inches Horsepower-single exhaust1 Horsepower-single exhaust2 Horsepower-dual exhaust1 Horsepower-dual exhaust2 Torque-single exhaust1 Torque-single exhaust2 Torque-dual exhaust1 Torque-dual exhaust2 Required fuel grade 4. 6L engine 281 200 @ 4250 rpm 205 @ 4250 rpm 215 @ 4500 rpm 220 @ 4500 rpm 265 lbs.
