Important Safety Instructions
1. Install in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. Do not install near any heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other apparatus (including amplifiers) that produce heat. Do not defeat the safety purpose of the polarized or grounding-type plug. [. . . ] Thesignalattheseoutputsisadirectcopyofthe inputsignals. Theoutputsareseparateand maintainthestereoseparationoftheinputsignals.
4. HIGH PASS OUTPUTS
BalancedXLRmaleconnectorsareprovidedforthe line-levelAandBhigh-passoutputs. Thesubwoofer's internalactivecrossoversplitstheinputsignalsinto twofrequencybands. Thelowfrequencyrangebelow 100Hzgoestotheinternalamplifierthatpowersthe subwoofer. Thefrequencyrangeabove100Hzissentto theseline-leveloutputjacks.
6. POLARITY INVERT
Pressthisswitchintoinvertsubwooferpolarity. DependingontheplacementoftheHD1801subwoofer relativetothefull-rangespeakers, youmaygetabetter low-frequencyresponseifyouinvertthepolarityofthe subwoofer'ssignal. Seepage11formoreinformation.

The Ins and Outs of Polarity
Mackie'sHD-SeriesPoweredSubwoofersincludea switchthatallowsyoutoquicklyinvertthepolarityof thesubwoofer'soutputrelativetotheinputsignalitis receivingfromthemixerorothersoundsource. But whatexactlydoesthatmean?Asubwooferworksbyliterallypumpingairasthewooferconemovesinandout withrespecttothecabinetinwhichitishoused. Itdoes soaccordingtothelow-frequencyportionofthesignalit receivesfromthesoundsource. Thewooferconeissimplyfollowingthewaveform asseeninthesinewaveinFigure1. Asthesinewave rises, thewooferconepushesout. Likewise, asthesine wavefalls, thewooferconepullsintothecabinet. A musicalsignalismuchmorecomplex, ofcourse, butthe sameprincipleapplies. Movementofthewoofercone causesairpressurechangesthatweperceiveassound. Thepolarityinvertswitchcomesintoplaywhenthe HD1801subwooferispairedwithaloudspeaker. Ideally, thewooferconesofthesubwooferandfull-rangeloudspeakerwouldworktogetherbypushingandpullingin unison. HD-Seriessubwoofersaredesignedtobeused inabroadrangeofapplications, andwithawidevariety offull-rangeloudspeakers. Theflexibilityprovidedby thepolarityswitchisnecessarytoensurethatyouare receivingthebestpossiblesoundfromyoursystem, regardlessofyoursetup.

Thesesettingsareagoodstart, butbesure toexperimenttofindthebestsoundforyourvenue. The loudspeakersmaybestacked, pole-mounted, orflown. WhenthePolarityInvertswitch[6]isengaged, the ·HD-Series full-range loudspeakers-Engagethe originalwaveformissimplyreversed180º(seeFigure PolarityInvertswitchontheHD1801.
