You can change the extensions by using the drop-down list or by manually entering the extensions, separated by colons. The list of included files is filtered according to the extensions you specified. Working with Resources The Resources tree provides a view of the project files based on the file type. This is useful for isolating application files, media files, and other content. You can easily edit the default resource types and add new ones. Note To prevent slow execution of project link verification and extended search and replace operations caused by parsing large binary files such as exe, pdf, zip, and media file types, a list of excluded file extensions is installed in the Windows Registry LinkVerifyExcludeExts key. To set the initial resources for a project: 1. Open Options > Settings > Projects. Select the Include project resources option. Select individual resources in the Resource Name column. Click the Edit button to change the filter (file extension) for the selected resource. Click OK to save the resources settings. You can click the Add button in the Projects pane to add your own resources to the tree or you can follow the next procedure while working in the Projects tree. 100 To add a resource from the Projects tree: 1. Right-click Resources in the project folder pane and select Add Resource. In the Add Resource Folder dialog box, enter a name for the resource in the Resource Name box. Enter the file extension(s) of resource types in the Resource Filter box, separating multiple extensions with semicolons. Click OK to save the folder in the Resources tree. You can right-click a resource in the tree to edit or remove it. Additional Project Features There are additional project features that are described in other sections of this manual. These features and their related sections are listed in the following table. Feature Verifying links in a project Using Find and Replace across entire projects Working in a Source Control System Deploying (uploading) projects Section "Verifying Hyperlinks" on page 120 "Using the Find and Replace Feature" on page 111 "Working in a Source Control System" on page 101 "Deploying Projects" on page 103 Using Projects for Site Management 101 Working in a Source Control System An additional benefit of creating projects is that you can manage project files in a source control system. Why use source control? Version source control for Web site content is an essential for coordinating team development of complex projects. A source control system does add a layer of file management responsibility, but it offers clear advantages for developers, managers, and support staff, including: · Share files on a LAN without overwriting work or accidentally modifying files simultaneously. · Track versions of files and modifications as files are changed. · Control the deployment of applications. · Replicate applications to a local workstation for development and testing.
