With the Matrox iSwitch Client Access Control configuration feature, the administrator can permit either: Specific clients with specific day and time restrictions. The Client Access Control uses a packet filtering scheme on the packets received from the internal network to assure users are forced to obey their client profile. For client access, the packet filter checks the source address of the received packets. What You Should Know Since the Client Access Control is based on IP source address of the packets received from the internal network, each client may only be logged in from one machine. If the client changes the machine and tries to log on from another machine, the first client is logged out automatically. This also means that if the IP address of the user's machine changes, that client is automatically logged out and will have to log in again. If any client is logged on, no other client will be able to log on from any other machine using the same client name and password. If the client wants to log in from another machine, they should log out from the machine from which they first logged in. For more secure and efficient access, there is an automatic log out mechanism that can be enabled or disabled. When enabled, the automatic log out checks the traffic received from the user's machine. If no packets are received during a specified amount of time, the client is automatically logged out. This feature is designed for users that leave their workstation, forgetting that they may be logged on at the time. Site Access Control What is it? All users in the internal/intranet network may use the Internet through a controlled environment. The administrator may control Internet access by configuring the Site Access table. It manages the access of the Internet sites and the time of access specific to each site. [. . . ] The Site Access Control uses the IP address of the site registered in the Site Access table. To filter the correct packets, it is crucial for Matrox iSwitch to resolve the IP addresses of these sites. The administrator must make sure that all the sites in the site table are resolved, specially if the Matrox iSwitch is to deny the access to these sites.
