ETHERNET SET-UP Every computer in your network ­ just like your router ­ requires a unique IP address. Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) offers a way of automatically allocating IP client configurations within your local network. If your router is configured as DHCP server, then it will automatically allocate an IP address from a specified range of addresses to a client computer requesting address information within the network. The client computer configured as DHCP client broadcasts a request, the DHCP server receives it, assigns a new address for a specific period of time and sends it to the client together with other required configuration information. This has the advantage that you do not need to manually configure fixed IP addresses for the clients in your network. This not only reduces the network administration overhead but also removes any chance of making mistakes. You can set an address range for the DHCP server from which the router takes the IP addresses.
