Detailed instructions for use are in the User's Guide.

[. . . ] · Only use rechargeable metal-hybrid batteries (NiMH), nickel-cadmium (NICD) or alkaline batteries (RAM batteries). Do not use any batteries in the device that are not clearly labelled as rechargeable. · There will be the danger of injury and the device could be damaged if other types of battery are used. · · · Always only use rechargeable batteries (batteries) of the same type for a charging process!Only connect the plug-in power supply unit to a well accessible 240 V ~ 50 Hz socket. [. . . ] The charging process is the same in the case of NiMH and NiCd batteries; but NiCd batteries must be discharged before recharging. Please take the approximate charging times of the individual types of battery to be expected from the Table on p. RAM cells must not be discharged under any circumstances, because this can shorten the useful life of the batteries, as far as the loss the ability of the RAM cells to charge. RAM cells should not be used no more than half capacity and then be recharged for this reason. 8 Never place RAM cells in the device if the function switch is at the NiMH or NiCd position. This could lead to the discharging of the batteries and therefore to damage to the device. Labelling of the Battery Types Rechargeable batteries are labelled in accordance with the IEC Norm in Europe. Labels taken from the American ANSI Norm exist apart from this. The micro, mignon, baby, mono and block size labels are the most usual. The following Table will give you an overview of the most usual size and type labels that can be recharged with this charging device: Size Labels Label ANSI/ISO Micro AAA/R03 Mignon AA/R6 Type Labels Type NiMH NiCd RAM cell Micro HR03 KR03 LR03 Mignon HR6 KR6 LR6 Baby HR1 4 KR1 4 LR14 Mono HR20 KR20 LR20 Baby C/R1 4 Mono D/R20 Block 9V No general IEC type labelling can be established for rechargeable 9V block batteries. The typical 6F22 label for non-rechargeable block batteries is frequently used for them. 9 Automatic Recognition of the End of Charging This charging device manages the charging time for NiCd and NiMH type rechargeable batteries separately. This management is based on the (Minus Delta U) process. Recognition of the end of charging in accordance with Minus Delta U (- U) Differences are described with delta in mathematics. In this case, Minus Delta U means a negative difference in voltage. This recognition of the end of charging exploits the following effects: The voltage of a battery will increase continuously if it is being charged with constant electricity. However, if a battery has been completely charged, its voltage will have reached a maximum and will decline slightly if there is a further current flow. This slight decline in voltage will be recognised by the charging technology and charge will be ended. NOTE: The charging time for 9 V block batteries is not recognised automatically and ends after 10 hours. You will also be able to establish the charging time for a 9 V block batteries as follows: Charging time = (capacity of battery (mAh) / charging electricity (mA)) x 1. 5 10 For example: You want to charge a 9 V block battery with a capacity of 200 mAh (given on the battery) in the device. This charging device supplies a current flow of 65 mA (to be found in the Technical Data). Therefore take 60 mA for the average level of the current flow. The formula will now appear as follows: (200 mAh / 65 mA) x 1. 5 = 4. 61 h The charging time will therefore be 4 hours 36 minutes in this case. 11 Automatic discharging Batteries will be initially discharged and then recharged in the NiCd switch position. NiCd batteries must be discharged before recharging, in order to avoid the memory effect, in the case of which batteries not completely charged only retain their capacity up to the point of the most recent charging. You will, of course, also be able to discharge NiMH batteries by setting the function switch to NiCd and placing the charged NiMH batteries in the charging slots. This is neither damaging to the rechargeable batteries nor the device, because NiMH batteries are not subject to any memory effect. [. . . ] Please use NiMH batteries with a capacity of at least 500 mAh exclusively. 18 Use batteries in the following ranges of capacity exclusively: Battery type Ni-MH NiCd Battery size AAA AA C D 9V RAM AAA AA C D Capacity 500 900 mAh 500 2500 mAh 500 4500 mAh 500 8000 mAh 120 250 mAh 500 1000 mAh 1000 2500 mAh 2000 4500 mAh 2500 6000 mAh Switching off function This device is equipped with automatic temperature monitoring that will interrupt the charging process if too high temperatures arise in the device. 19 Taking the device out of operation Stashing the device away/putting it away · · · Detach the plug-in power supply unit from the socket if you are no longer using the device. Remove the rechargeable batteries from the device, if necessary. Close the cover and store the device in a dry place. 20 Disposal Packaging The Device is packaged to protect it from transport damage. Packages are raw materials and thus can be disposed of when returned to the raw materials. Device Never dispose off the device in the normal household garbage at the end of its life cycle, .
