[. . . ] In addition you may open any other existing text files from any of your removable drives or any files that may have been emailed to you. Save The save option will allow you to save any file that you were currently working on. The save feature works exactly as it would in any other text editing program. Note: Save will auto enable when working on an opened file. When making changes to a file the SAVE AS option will also appear in the File Menu Bar roll down. [. . . ] Make sure you place the document correctly on the scanner. This very important, because if the document is off center or backwards the OCR engine will NOT recognize the text correctly and the results maybe useless. Look at the illistration below for proper material placement on the scanners glass bed. Front of Scanner Placing the reflective, positive and negative materials on the scanner's glass bed. Notice how the scan material can easily be aligned along the edges of the scanner's glass bed. The document being placed on the scanners glass bed has text on both sides. Make sure that you place the text side of the document face down and the front or top of your document towards the front of the scanner. 4. Click on "Scan&Read" button, once you have placed the document on the scanner glass bed. 5 5. This will launch your "Scanner Settings" window. Image orientation This option is important in that choosing the incorrect orientation can result in unrecognizable scans and OCR conversions. Make sure to choose the correct orientation of the page or document you are scanning. Measure units Allows you to select the measurement unit type you want to use for final output measuring references. Paper format It is important for ABBYY and the scanner to know the format of the paper, page, or document you are scanning. This option allows you to select the proper format. Use automatic document feeder (ADF) - Select this option if you have an ADF attached to your scanner and you wish to perform multiple scans for OCR. Brightness (also referred to as threshold) selecting middle value (50%) usually results in a good quality output. Pictures scanning mode Simply allows you to tell ABBYY what type of image you are scanning, thus allowing ABBYY to use as many imbedded features as possible to accommodate for the scan. Resolution Selecting 300 dpi as your resolution is the most ideal resolution setting for OCR scanning. 6 6. Click the "OK" button once all the scanner setting have been entered. This will begin the scanning process of your document and a progress bar will appear on your screen. See illustration below. After the document has been completely scanned. [. . . ] A new folder icon will appear within the Save as window. Type in the name of the new folder and press enter and this will add your new folder to the directory you choose. 10 Double click on the new folder or highlight the new folder and click on "Open". Click on "Save" to save your scanned document into the new folder. Under the Save as type, field click on the down arrow within the Save as type field. From the roll down menu select the File Type select RTF. We recommend RTF (Rich Text Format) when you save your document for it keeps character and paragraph format. [. . . ]
