Detailed instructions for use are in the User's Guide.

[. . . ] Turn selector control knob to OFF and unplug from electrical outlet when not in use and before cleaning. Allow to cool before putting on or taking off parts, and before cleaning the appliance. Do not operate any machine with a damaged cord or plug or after the machine malfunctions, or has been damaged in any manner. Return this machine only to the nearest authorized service center for repair. [. . . ] To clean the inside of the machine, follow steps for `How to Brew Espresso' on pages 6 - 7, using water only. Do not immerse in water or attempt to reach any internal parts of the machine. First unwind the electrical cord from the bottom of your machine. Fill the glass carafe with cold water to the designated marking for the desired number of servings of espresso. Never use warm or hot water to fill the water tank. Note: If you are making cappuccino, refer to page 8 for the proper water measurements. For 2 servings, fill with water up to the 2 cup marking indicated on the carafe. For 4 servings, fill with water up to the 4 cup marking indicated on the carafe. Do not fill to the top of the tank or there will not be enough area to generate steam. CAUTION: Do not pour water into the tank while the machine is on. check to make sure the selector control knob is OFF. CAUTION: The metal parts of the filter holder might still be very hot. Make sure to use the filter retainer clip when discarding the grounds. Cool these parts by running under cold water. Frothing milk for cappuccino takes practice. Do not be discouraged if it is not perfect the first time. the milk should be half steamed (bottom of pitcher) and half froth (top of pitcher). It may take a few times before you perfect this process. For best results, we recommend frothing the milk in a separate pitcher and pouring the milk into your coffee. Do not use a pitcher which has just been washed in warm water. The first step in making cappuccino is to make espresso. Therefore, pour in sufficient water for the required quantity of espresso, plus enough water for the production of steam for frothing milk. [. . . ] This can adversely affect the seal between the brew head and the filter holder while brewing espresso. Your espresso maker must be delimed when you begin to notice an increase in the time required to brew espresso, or when there is excessive steaming. Also, you may notice a build up of white deposits on the surface of the brew head. the frequency of cleaning depends upon the hardness of the water used. [. . . ]
