Remove the 2 small muffler screws (J) (Figure 4-4A). Grasp cover (K) and screen (L), and insert first screw (J) (Figure 4-4B). Install onto muffler and secure first screw. FUEL Use regular grade unleaded gasoline mixed with McCulloch 40:1 custom 2-cycle engine oil for best results. 4-3B K L J E Never use straight gasoline in your unit. This will cause permanent engine damage and void the manufacturer’s warranty for that product. Never use a fuel mixture that has been stored for over 90 days. N If 2-cycle lubricant other than McCulloch Custom Lubricant is to be used, it must be a premium grade oil for 2-cycle air cooled G engines mixed at a 40:1 ratio. Do not use any 2-cycle oil product with a recommended mixing ratio of 100:1. Your McCulloch engine is designed to operate satisfactorily on any gasoline intended for automotive use including oxygenated gasolines. STARTING A COLD ENGINE Fill fuel tank with proper gas and oil mixture. Set unit on ground so that it rests on the back pack frame. Move ignition switch to the RUN “|” position (A) (Fig ure 6-1A). Set throttle lock (C): While holding trigger (B) at wide open position, press down and hold throttle lock (C). Release throtN tle trigger (B), then release throttle lock (C). Throttle trigger (B) will now remain in the fully depressed position (Figure 6G 1A). Pump the primer bulb (D) 10 times (Figure 6-1B). Pull starter rope out a short way until resistance is felt (approx. A smooth rapid pull is required for a strong spark (Figure 6-1D). Pull starter rope again 4 times (while trigger is still in the fully depressed position) (Figure 6-1D). [. . . ] Pull starter rope briskly to clear excess oil from combustion chamber. Clean and gap spark plug or install a new spark plug with proper gap. Fill fuel tank with proper fuel / oil mixture. A steel wire (C) with a hook or a paper clip works well (Figure 8-2B). [. . . ]
