Using the Power-Saving Mode
Your PowerMate 2000 series system features a power-saving "sleep" mode when running Windows® 98 or Windows 2000.  [. . . ] The system saves your data and goes into sleep mode (the screen is blank and the power lamp is amber). 

Do not press and hold in the system's power/sleep button for more than three seconds while putting the system in sleep mode. Doing so might turn off your system and result in a possible loss of your data. 

Waking Up the System
To take the system out of the power-saving sleep mode,  press and quickly release the power/sleep button. The system "wakes up" and returns to where it was prior to going into the sleep mode. You can also wake the system by pressing the space bar twice in rapid succession. Note that you cannot wake the system from the sleep mode by pressing the keyboard's space bar once or by moving your mouse,  as stated in your user's guide. Note
We recommend using only the power/sleep button to wake the system out of sleep mode. Press and hold the button for three seconds or less to wake up the system. Using the power/sleep button for waking up the system ensures proper operation of the power-saving features.
