If the Correct Path Is Not Displayed If the correct path is not displayed, repeat steps 4­6 to select the correct path. 7 Begin installation of the device drivers Click Next. 8 Click Finish Click Finish to complete installation. 9 Confirm device registration Confirm that the scanner has been correctly registered with the system as described in "Confirming Device Registration (Windows 98 SE)" ( 51). 50 Confirming Device Registration (Windows 98 SE) After registering the scanner, confirm that the device is working normally as described below. 1 2 3 Turn the scanner on Make sure that the scanner is connected and turned on. Open the System Properties dialog From the Start menu, select Settings > Control Panel and double-click the System icon. Display the Device Manager The System Properties dialog will be displayed. Open the Device Manager tab. 4 Confirm that the scanner is listed under "Imaging Device" If "Imaging Device" appears in the Device Manager, click the "+" to its left to view the imaging devices currently registered with Windows. If the Scanner Is Not Listed If your scanner is not listed under "Imaging Device, " proceed to "Updating the Device Driver (Windows 98 SE)" ( 53). 51 5 Confirm that the scanner is working properly Double-click the listing for your scanner that appears under "Imaging Device. " The scanner Properties dialog will be displayed. Click the General tab and confirm that "This device is working properly" appears under "Device Status. " If another message is displayed, proceed to "Updating the Device Driver (Windows 98 SE)" ( 53). 52 Updating the Device Driver (Windows 98 SE) If the scanner is not listed under "Imaging Device" in the Device Manager or the message "This device is working properly" does not appear in the Properties dialog, you will need to reinstall the device driver as detailed below. 1 2 3 Open the scanner Properties dialog Display the Device Manager as described in steps 1­3 of "Confirming Device Registration 51).
