To prevent water damage to the camera, be sure to check for leaks before placing the camera in the case. If water enters the case, check the seal and make sure that the case is fully closed ( 10). Let dry in the shade Maintenance · Replacing the seal · Storage ( 17­18) 5 Check for Leaks Important!Before placing the camera in the FJ-CP1, be sure that the camera is functioning normally and that the case does not leak. Failure to check for leaks before use could result in irreparable damage to the camera. Note that leaks may result if the case is cracked or damaged. Check for cracking and other damage before use, and consult with a Nikon service representative in the event that any cracking or damage is found. Check for Leaks Close the case After making sure that the seal is in place, clean, and unobstructed ( 10), slowly close the case, being careful not to pinch your fingers in the gap. Latch the case With front and rear halves of the case lightly touching, flip the buckle onto the front half of the case. Press the buckle closed until it clicks shut. Check that the case is tightly closed, that the seal is in place, and that no foreign objects are caught in the seal. 6 Check for Leaks Immerse the case Slowly immerse the FJ-CP1 in water, stopping if water enters the case. [. . . ] Make sure that the seal is free of foreign matter before each use, and check the case for leaks before using the camera under water. A leak may indicate that the seal is damaged, stretched, or has lost elasticity and should be replaced as described below. Remove the seal Insert your finger into the notch and remove the seal as shown. Do Not Use Force or Sharp Objects The case may leak if the seal is forcibly stretched or damaged through the use of edged or pointed objects, including fingernails and metal tools. Maintenance Notch Cracking Inspect the seal Remove any foreign matter with tissue paper or a soft, dry cloth, taking care not to leave tissue or threads on the seal. [. . . ]
