When you select Instant Access OCR, TextBridge Pro starts up (or is activated if it is already running) and displays the main window. The words "Instant Access" appear above the status area to indicate that TextBridge Pro is in Instant Access mode (see Figure 4­9). From here, you can set up and initiate OCR exactly as you would when not in Instant Access mode, with two exceptions: x The Save dialog never appears because you need not specify a filename and location: the recognized text will be pasted directly into your word processing document. Save Page Image ­ Defer OCR is automatically turned off: TextBridge Pro will not paste page images into a text application. x 4­32 TextBridge Professional Edition User's Guide To run TextBridge Pro from, and import recognized text directly into, the host application's open document, use the following procedure: 1. Start the host application, and open a document into which you can import the recognized data. Set the insertion point where you want TextBridge Pro to paste text in the document. Pull down the Apple menu and select the Instant Access OCR command. In a few moments, the TextBridge Pro main window appears in Instant Access mode (Figure 4­9). Refer to any of the step-by-step procedures in this chapter for more information. When OCR is complete, recognized text is pasted at the insertion point in your application's open document. TextBridge Pro leaves Instant Access mode, and waits for further instructions. To return to Instant Access mode, select the Instant Access OCR command from the Apple menu again. Using TextBridge Pro 4­33 Notes Although Save Page Image ­ Defer OCR is turned off, you can still select this option. If you do so, TextBridge Pro leaves Instant Access mode; when you start processing, TextBridge Pro displays the Save dialog box, where you must specify a filename and destination to continue processing. During normal processing, the Stop button is only enabled after you click Go to begin processing. In Instant Access mode, the Stop button is always enabled. If you click Stop before clicking Go to begin processing, TextBridge Pro will leave Instant Access mode. After you click Go, clicking Stop stops processing as usual and leaves Instant Access mode as well. Instant Access OCR uses the clipboard to copy and paste recognized text into your application either as formatted RTF (Rich Text Format, Microsoft's standard for document interchange) or as Formatted ASCII text. If your application supports RTF pasted from the clipboard, then RTF is used. If not, recognized text is pasted as plain text, and the formatting (bold, italic, and so on) is lost. [. . . ] TextBridge Pro will store each page image exactly as scanned. scanner brightness--In TextBridge Pro scanner preferences, a setting that informs the program about how light or dark the resulting image from a scanned page will be. This is similar to the Brightness or Contrast setting on a photocopier. scanner driver--A software module that is written as an interface between a software application and a scanner. [. . . ]
