(between ­ dB, ­30 dB and +12 dB) 14 Listening to your favorite source Headphones PHONES You can connect stereo headphones with a standard stereo plug to the PHONES jack. The sound heard through the headphones is the same sound that can be heard from the Front speakers, although it may be slightly different from what is heard from the speakers when Surround mode is used. CD DVD Temporary muting Press the MUTING button on the remote controller. This button temporarily mutes the sound from the speakers or headphones. To cancel, · press the MUTING button again, or · turn the power off, then turn it on. DISC TAPE CH SEL TEST TONE SPEAKERS A LEVEL VOLUME MUTING MUTING REMOTE CONTROLLER RC-385S Sleep function The sleep timer can turn off the power to the system after a specified time period. To set up this function, use the remote controller supplied with your receiver. Start playing the source to which you would like to listen (CD, tape, or radio broadcast). Press the SLEEP button repeatedly to set the duration of time after which you want the system to turn off. The longest timer value you can set is 90 minutes. Pressing the SLEEP button each time reduces the time value in 10-minute increments. When the set time comes, the power will be switched off automatically. Note: You cannot adjust the subwoofer level while the test tone is sounding. Refer to "Adjusting the volume level of the subwoofer" on page 14 for more information. Select a source encoded with Dolby Surround and use the SURROUND MODE button to select DOLBY PRO LOGIC mode. Use the CENTER MODE button to select a center mode. When you press the CENTER MODE button, the name of each mode will be shown on the display for three seconds in turn. Adjust the volume level of the connected speakers as follows so that all the speakers sound at the same level in the listening position. Press the TEST TONE button on the remote controller. The test tone will start sounding from the Front L speaker, then move to other speakers. The test tone moves from speaker to speaker in the following order: If Center mode is NORMAL or WIDEBAND: Left CH SEL DVD INPUT SELECTOR TAPE TUNER PHONO CD VIDEO-1 VIDEO-2 GROUP TUNER PRESET 2 OUND MODE CENTER MODE DELAY TIME When the button is pressed, the mode will change as shown below. NORMAL WIDEBAND PHANTOM 3-1 CH SEL DVD 3-2 CH SEL DVD 3-3 DVD Center Right Right Surround Left Surround TEST TONE TEST TONE CH SEL TEST TONE If Center mode is PHANTOM: Front Left Front Right Right Surround Left Surround VOLUME LEVEL MUTING VOLUME LEVEL MUTING VOLUME LEVEL MUTING 4 ROUND MODE CENTER MODE DELAY TIME 3-2. Press the LEVEL or button to change the volume level of the test tone output from the target speaker. You will hear the test tone continuously as long as you are adjusting the volume level. TUNED and FM STEREO indicators light but sound is distorted and stereo separation is bad. TUNED and FM STEREO indicators flicker and hiss is heard on FM.
