[. . . ] In addition to displaying text information, RDS can also help you find radio stations by type (e. g. , news, sport, rock, etc. ). The AV receiver supports four types of RDS information: PS (Program Service) Science and technology Varied Pop music Rock music Middle of the road music Light classics Serious classics Other music Weather Finance Children's programmes Social affairs Religion Phone in Travel Leisure Jazz music Country music National music Oldies music Folk music Documentary Alarm test Alarm When tuned to an RDS station that's broadcasting PS information, the station's name will be displayed. Pressing the [DISPLAY] button will display the frequency for 3 seconds. RT (Radio Text) When tuned to an RDS station that's broadcasting text information, the text will be shown on the display (see page 56). PTY (Program Type) This allows you to search RDS radio stations by type (see page 56). TP (Traffic Program) This allows you to search for RDS radio stations that broadcast traffic information (see page 56). Notes: · In some cases, the characters displayed on the AV receiver may not be identical to those broadcast by the radio station. Also, unexpected characters may be displayed when unsupported characters are received. · If the signal from an RDS station is weak, RDS data may be displayed intermittently or not at all. 55 Listening to the Radio--Continued Displaying Radio Text (RT) RT/PTY/TP MASTER VOLUME 4 ENTER TUNING PRESET ON/STANDBY STANDBY ZONE 2 To start the search, press [ENTER]. The AV receiver searches until it finds a station of the type you specified, at which point it stops briefly before continuing with the search. Listening to Traffic News (TP) 1 ON/STANDBY STANDBY ZONE 2 3 MASTER VOLUME TUNING PRESET Notes: · The message "Waiting" may appear while the AV receiver waits for the RT information. · If the message "No Text Data" appears on the display, no RT information is available. MASTER VOLUME 1 ON/STANDBY STANDBY ZONE 2 4, 5 TUNING PRESET 1 TUNER Use the [TUNER] input selector button to select FM. PURE AUDIO MULTI CH DVD VCR/DVR CBL/SAT GAME/TV AUX TAPE TUNER CD SETUP ENTER RETURN AUX INPUT PHONES ZONE 2 OFF ZONE 2 LEVEL TONE MOVIE/TV MUSIC GAME DISPLAY DIGITAL INPUT RT/PTY/TP MEMORY TUNING MODE SETUP MIC VIDEO L AUDIO R CLEAR AV RECEIVER TX-SR606 2 RT/PTY/TP 2 3 You can search for radio stations by type. 1 TUNER Use the [TUNER] input selector button to select FM. Press the [RT/PTY/TP] button three times. If the current radio station is broadcasting TP (Traffic Program), "[TP]" will appear on the display and traffic news will be heard as and when it's broadcast. If "TP" without square brackets appears, this means that the station is not broadcasting TP. To locate a station that is broadcasting TP, press [ENTER]. The AV receiver searches until it finds a station that's broadcasting TP. If no stations are found, the message "Not Found" appears. 3 Press the [RT/PTY/TP] button twice. The current program type appears on the display. Use the PRESET [ ]/[ ] buttons to select the type of program you want. See the table on page 55. ENTER 2 RT/PTY/TP 3 PRESET 56 Using the Listening Modes Selecting the Listening Modes For a description of each listening mode, see "About the Listening Modes" on page 64. · The Dolby Digital and DTS listening modes can only be selected if your DVD player is connected to the AV receiver with a digital audio connection (coaxial, optical, or HDMI). · The listening modes you can select depends on the format of the input signal. To check the format, see "Displaying Source Information" on page 49. · While a pair of headphones is connected, you can only select the Pure Audio, Mono, Direct, or Stereo listening mode. [. . . ] Before disconnecting the power cord from the wall outlet, set the AV receiver to Standby. 99 Troubleshooting--Continued Important Note Regarding Video Playback The AV receiver can upconvert component video, S-Video, and composite video sources for display on a TV connected to the HDMI OUT. However, if the picture quality of the source is poor, upconversion may make the picture worse or disappear altogether.
