. . . . . . . . . . . 140 -3- Before Use Before Use Quick Guide This is an overview of how to record and play back pictures with the camera. [. . . ] The ISO sensitivity is adjusted according to the movement of the subject and the brightness. The ISO sensitivity is fixed to various settings. About [ ] (Intelligent ISO sensitivity control) The camera automatically sets the optimum ISO sensitivity and shutter speed to suit the movement of the subject and brightness of the scene to minimize the jitter of the subject. · The shutter speed is not fixed when the shutter button is pressed halfway. It is continuously changing to match the movement of the subject until the shutter button is pressed fully. Confirm the actual shutter speed on the information display for the picture being played back. - 111 - Advanced (Recording pictures) Note · When setting to [AUTO], the ISO sensitivity is automatically adjusted to a maximum of [ISO400] according to the brightness. (It can be adjusted to a maximum of [ISO1600] when using the flash. ) · When setting to [ ], ISO sensitivity will adjust automatically depending on brightness within the maximum setting of [ISO1600]. · The ISO sensitivity will be set to [AUTO] when recording motion pictures. · The higher the value set for the ISO sensitivity, the more the jitter is reduced but the greater the amount of picture noise. · Refer to P59 for the flash range. · Depending on the brightness and how fast the subject is moving, jitter may not be avoided even if [ ] is selected. · Movements may not be detected when a moving subject is small, when a moving subject is at the edge of the screen or when a subject moved at the very moment when the shutter button was pressed fully. · The setting is fixed to [ ] in the following cases. In [SPORTS], [BABY1]/[BABY2], [PET] and [FLASH BURST] in Scene Mode · You cannot select [ ] in Shutter-Priority AE Mode and Manual Exposure Mode. · If picture noise becomes a problem, we recommend that you take pictures after lowering the ISO sensitivity level, increasing the setting for [NOISE REDUCTION] under [PICT. ADJ. ], or lowering the setting for each of the items other than [NOISE REDUCTION]. (P123) - 112 - Advanced (Recording pictures) [ISO LIMIT SET] For details on [REC] Mode menu settings, refer to P23. It will select optimal ISO sensitivity with set value as limit depending on the brightness of the subject. Applicable modes: [AUTO]/[200]/[400]/[800]/[1600] Note · The higher the value set for the ISO sensitivity, the more the jitter is reduced but the greater the amount of picture noise. · It will work when the [SENSITIVITY] is set to [AUTO] or [ ]. [WHITE BALANCE] For details on [REC] Mode menu settings, refer to P23. In sunlight, under incandescent lights or in other such conditions where the color of white takes on a reddish or bluish tinge, this item adjusts to the color of white which is closest to what is seen by the eye in accordance with the light source. Applicable modes: [ AWB ]: [ [ [ [ [ [ ]: ]: ]: ]: ]: ]: Automatic adjustment When taking pictures outdoors under a clear sky When taking pictures outdoors under a cloudy sky When taking pictures outdoors in the shade When taking pictures under incandescent lights Value set by using [ SET ] When using the preset color temperature setting Note · The optimal White Balance will differ depending on the type of halogen lighting being recorded under so use [ AWB ] or [ SET ]. · The White Balance setting is memorized even if the camera is turned off. (However, the White Balance setting for a Scene Mode returns to [AWB] when the Scene Mode is changed. ) · In the Scene Modes listed below, White Balance is fixed to [AWB]. [SCENERY]/[NIGHT PORTRAIT]/[NIGHT SCENERY]/[HANDHELD NIGHT SHOT]/[FOOD]/ [PARTY]/[CANDLE LIGHT]/[SUNSET]/[FLASH BURST]/[STARRY SKY]/[FIREWORKS]/ [BEACH]/[SNOW]/[AERIAL PHOTO]/[FILM GRAIN] - 113 - Advanced (Recording pictures) Setting the White Balance manually Set the White Balance value.
