Incoming multi channel signals are being reduced to fewer output signals (depending on the number of speakers). Optical digital input OPTICAL IN is being used for the playing source (FR 984, FR 985, FR 986, FR 994 only). A rectangle with a letter in it shows that a speaker has been selected in the setup menu. However, the subwoofer indicator will only light when a subwoofer signal is available. If only a letter is shown, this speaker is not used and its sound is reproduced by the other speakers. These signs show you if the menu is on or off and indicate in which direction you may move. You may move backwards to the previous menu topic using 1 PREV. You may move up in an option list using X MENU NAVIGATOR ("up" key on the remote control). You may move down in an option list using X MENU NAVIGATOR ("down" key on the remote control). You may move forward to the next menu topic using NEXT 2 ("right" key on the remote control). This area is used for feedback of the receiver, tuner frequencies, menu options, values and scrolling text messages. The different menu options are related to each other in a logical way. Let's assume you have no center speaker connected, and therefore switched CENTER SPEAKR to NO. If you try to use VOL CENTER, a message will be scrolled that this is not possible (INSTALL CENTER SPEAKER). Arrows in the display show you the possible moving directions.
