You can also use with Dolby Digital sources for a wider stereo field than the Surround modes. In Auto mode, stereo sources are played in stereo (through the front left/right speakers), and surround sound sources (Dolby Digital, DTS and Dolby Surround) are played in surround sound. You can use this mode to give surround sound to mono or stereo TV audio sources. When you select this mode, you will hear a surround sound effect produced from the two front speakers only. When selected, you won't hear any sound from the other speakers in your system. The Surround modes available depend on whether the source you're listening to is stereo or surround. This can be selected to give powerful multispeaker sound to a stereo source with equal power delivered to all the speakers. It is especially suited to music sources with deep bass and a strong rhythmic feel. This is very similar to the Virtual Surround mode, and is available when you're listening through headphones to create an overall surround sound effect. When you select Stereo (available in the Surround mode only), you will hear the source through just the front left and right speakers. 3 Start playback of the component you selected in step 1. When playing 96 kHz PCM sources, or when headphones are connected, only the Stereo mode is available. Use the Advanced Surround modes to add DSP effects to a source playing in a surround listening mode. Standard ­ As Auto above, but can be used with Advanced Surround modes (see below). Stereo ­ Downmixes surround sources for playback through the front left/right speakers For a stereo source: 1 Press ADVANCED repeatedly to choose one of the sound options. 1 channel surround sound decoding, especially good for movies · dolby Pro Logic II Music ­ 5. 1 channel surround sound decoding, especially good for music · Virtual Surround Back ­ Simulated surround back speaker sound from the surround speakers · expanded ­ Extra wide sound stage · TV Surround ­ Surround sound from mono or stereo TV sound · Virtual Surround ­ Simulated surround sound from just the front left/right speakers · When headphones are connected, only the Phones Surround option is available · See also page 49­50 for more detailed explanations of these modes You can adjust the effect level of the Advanced Surround mode to get the sound that you want. You can't adjust the effect level of the 5-Channel Stereo or the Virtual Surround Back modes. Make sure that one of the Advanced Surround modes is on when you do this (see Using Advanced Surround on the previous page). The effect level can be adjusted from 10 (min) to 90 (max). You can't use the Advanced Surround modes with SACD, DVD-Audio and 96 kHz PCM sources.
