[. . . ] The SCMS (Serial Copy Management System) is a regulation that limits the number of digital signal copy operations in terms of "number of generations". This number is variable depending on sources, but at least one generation of digital copy from the original source is possible with any source. The digital signal from a copyrighted CD or DAT music tape can be copied digitally for only one generation. The digital signal received from satellite broadcasting can be copied digitally for up to two generation. But depending on the BS/CS tuner, otherwise, it can be copied for only one generation. A digital recording obtained by recording an analog input can be copied digitally for only one generation regardless of the original recording source. If this happens, either use the analog input, or change the source material--see page 72-73. However if you record digital satellite broadcasts, you may have cause to boost the digital recording volume since the digital volume of some broadcasts is relatively low.
