Home theater refers to the use of multiple audio tracks to create a surround sound effect, making you feel like you're in the middle of the action or concert. The surround sound you get from a home theater system depends not only on the speakers you have set up in your room, but also on the source and the sound settings of the receiver. DVD-Video has become the basic source material for home theater due to its size, quality, and ease of use. Depending on the DVD, you can have up to seven different audio tracks coming from one disc, all of them being sent to different speakers in your system. This is what creates a surround sound effect and gives you the feeling of `being there'. This receiver will automatically decode Dolby Digital, DTS, or Dolby Surround DVD-Video discs, according to your speaker setup. In most cases, you won't have to make changes for realistic surround sound, but other possibilities (like listening to a CD with multichannel surround sound) are explained in Listening to your system on page 18. ENTER ROOM SETUP English Quick setup using the Room Setup The Room Setup feature gives you a very simple way to set up your receiver for good surround sound by setting the room size and your seating position in the room. You can make more detailed settings for surround sound later if you want, setting individual channel levels and speaker distances. See below for more details. STANDBY/ON Switching on Use the STANDBY/ON button on the front panel or the remote control to switch the receiver on or into standby. You can set the distance in increments of 30 cm. · You can also use the < and > buttons on the front panel. 3 Press SYSTEM SETUP again to select the center speaker distance setting, then set using the / (cursor left/right) buttons. The display shows: C c h : followed by the current distance setting. You can adjust each speaker from 10 (quieter) to +10 (louder). · You can also use the front panel < and > buttons, although it's usually best to make this setting from your listening position using the remote. 3 When you're done, press ENTER to exit. · Pressing any button (except VOLUME +/) will also exit. 16 En SX-315. book Page 17 Friday, February 3, 2006 12:18 PM Surround sound setup 04 Setting the channel levels while playing a source The following way of setting the channel levels is best done while playing a multichannel source, such as a DVD.
